OK, first year with hogs at the 4H. They go to market tomorrow. DS wanted them to free range all day.... they started eating the house. Yup, they're pigs. I thought they'd like a swim:

They DID like it!! but didn't quite fit.

Baby chick is doing well. Much better with the broody than with me. Cochin Pullet's injury looks worse today (perhaps because it's scabbing over?) but she's eating, drinking and she pooed. So I'm hoping... thank you all for your prayers, she is such a sweet chook ~unlike her sister who wants to eat my face off.

Here she is with her man blurry photo, they are quite quick, it's probably what saved her from whatever got her.

This is Feline, he's the one grooming. Smaller than the rest, but seems to hold his own.

Ok, let me play devil's advocate here for a second. What does it mean to you when you see an ad for chickens that are being "sold in pairs only"?
I don't quite know... but I'd say it's someone who wants to get rid of just as many roosters as hens.

Kamir: I love the idea of having chooks as eye candy for the yard. In my opinion, EVERYONE should have chickens.

Oh my gosh Blarney, I missed so much happening with you by not reading the forum. I am so sorry to hear about the your MF hen! I hope she recovers well. Glad "Feline" is holding its own. Must say I DO love the name Igor for it tho!

Blurry photo...odd name for a roo.

I'm not a country boy...born and raised in Norristown, Pa., but now that I'm in the country, chickens just seemed like the right thing to have.

To me I would think pairs only to be a hen and a roo.

Ok, that is what I thought too. Someone called me about 2 pairs of orps and when they showed up, they expected 2 pairs of pullets. I was able to work it out and everyone is happy, but I felt like maybe I had not been clear enough.

Blarney, glad to hear everyone is doing good. Will continue to keep them in my thoughts.

Blurry Photo?! LOL!! He does actually have a name. LFMH...stands for: little fat meanie head. We culled Big Fat Meanie Head -sent him to freezer camp, but then LFMH picked up where he left off. You get rid of one mean roo, and another one steps up to take his place, beating up the girls or spurring the grandchildren.

We have been washing chickens for the show. Oh My Goodness!! What a nightmare. Everyone is arguing, birds are flapping - you get them all clean and then they escape, Yikes!! Why did I agree to this?
