I am so glad I got on here and skimmed. I had to get Dewey up and go out and help me tarp my truck - I still have a half a load of shavings in it for the bird pens!

BTW - It's snowing in Columbia County.

I processed Thanksgiving (yes, that was her name) today. Had to improvise on a scalder since there was no way she was going to fit in the pan I use for broilers. (Yes, I scrubbed & bleached my "scalder" before & after. If you are squeamish please skip over my pix. I left out the "guts" part but there is still some blood in a few pix.

Congratulations to you both!!

Got my main coop n run cleaned n refilled today, Yah hoooooo!

cleaning coops now?? it is so cold....i use sand..i just put a bunch of leaves in their coop/run..DH looked at me like..."WHY?"..then.."they are your chickens"..what the heck is that supposed to mean?!...Okay.i will have to filter the leaves out of the sand...not a biggie....anyway...the inside if their "sleeping quarters" haha..looks pretty icky, no poopy- i clean it out every day, but the marks/smears(sorry, i know it is gross), left by it... when do you all usually clean that kind of stuff? I do not like to see it...(OCD:barnie )..it is hard for me not to clean it. I AM going to wait till "spring" to scrub it all down., that would make them being in there a "full" season,..would that be okay? and what about the roost bars?...i scrape them off, but they are grody too......:( .i feel so un-kept now...

(Okay, so the word 'clean' may be a bit of an overstatement. My goal, because I'm worming, is to get out as much of the poo as possible. I didn't even make one of my futile attempts at clearing the cobwebs. Just mostly raked out below the roosts and put fresh bedding in. And this only happened in one coop....so I need to get cracking today. My temps haven't been as bad as yours, Danielle. We are getting 'hard freezes' overnight, but have only had one or 2 days where the temps stayed at 27 during the day. It helps that we are on a hill facing southeast and benefit from the sun too.

Wow! Thanks for sharing! Beautiful bird, great job. I especially liked the pic of her feet sticking out of the pot, very cool.

I was lucky enough to meet Chiqueschicks turkey's, I can definitely see myself getting attached. I especially love the noise they make.

My Mom had a pair of wild turkeys (hatchery birds) years ago that we raised from hatchlings along with a bunch of Chukkars and Bobwhites. I used to sit and putt putt back at the hen and I could get the tom to answer me when I'd gobble. Shouldn't get that attached to something you're gonna eat I guess. XD

I mentioned to 'da Hubby yesterday that we should get a couple of turkeys to raise for next fall. His response? "Are you crazy?@!!" lol! I've got a few months to work on him. ^_^

I thought they were younger..around my girls ages...PeakyBeaky, right?...she has nice birds. Mine are so loving..so much different than the first two, although i did get them from her, they were older. I think these girls were handled a bit more...they really do like it:love ..and so do I!!! hahaha...Oh, man..I wish i could home boy, but right now..just trying to get through the winter..maybe when the coop gets bigger:fl ... Looking forward to having these girls start to "kick-in" their egg laying, but it is going to be awhile....wyandottes, what are ya gonna do?!:idunno ...at least they are cold hardy!

I got them when they were about 3 weeks old. i did get them from PeakyBeaky. Wasa very long drive but worth the drive! Mine are very friendly. I have them with my silkies right now untill I get their new coop and run built. Hubby picked up 10 foot pallets for our new coop project! Love free supplies :D

I am hating winter already! Slipped and slided down my hill to my son's bus stop. Slid all the way up my hill. I had 2 people behind me so I couldn't even back down and try again. We only have a coating and we have some big flakes coming down. Hate to see how my road looks when sxhool is over. We live on a private road that gets now salt only rocks and tge plow guy never puts his plow down completely and leaves a nice layer of snow/ice on my road. It's a steep curvy hill to get to my house. Being on a cul-de-sac, only one way in and out!

For those looking for turkeys next year.....http://www.cacklehatchery.com/page10.html#happycaclespecial ....there is the cackle hatchery surprise, they send you more than 50 birds for like $60 including shipping....you can specify somethings like no waterfowl, etc...but you get whatever they have extras of....and many folks got a few turkeys in the mix....If you read back through the thread you can get a feel for what folks got....https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/...hatchery-surprise-anybody-got-this-before/730....
