I processed Thanksgiving (yes, that was her name) today. Had to improvise on a scalder since there was no way she was going to fit in the pan I use for broilers. (Yes, I scrubbed & bleached my "scalder" before & after. If you are squeamish please skip over my pix. I left out the "guts" part but there is still some blood in a few pix.

Wow! Thanks for sharing! Beautiful bird, great job. I especially liked the pic of her feet sticking out of the pot, very cool.

I was lucky enough to meet Chiqueschicks turkey's, I can definitely see myself getting attached. I especially love the noise they make.

THESE are the ones I get attached to. My trio of royal palms & trio of blue slates (the tom didn't make it into this pic). Thanksgiving was a broad breasted white that we raised out specifically for this year's dinner. We only call food by food related names. Helps us remember not to get attached.

I thought they were younger..around my girls ages...PeakyBeaky, right?...she has nice birds. Mine are so loving..so much different than the first two, although i did get them from her, they were older. I think these girls were handled a bit more...they really do like it:love ..and so do I!!! hahaha...Oh, man..I wish i could home boy, but right now..just trying to get through the winter..maybe when the coop gets bigger:fl ... Looking forward to having these girls start to "kick-in" their egg laying, but it is going to be awhile....wyandottes, what are ya gonna do?!:idunno ...at least they are cold hardy!

I got them when they were about 3 weeks old. i did get them from PeakyBeaky. Wasa very long drive but worth the drive! Mine are very friendly. I have them with my silkies right now untill I get their new coop and run built. Hubby picked up 10 foot pallets for our new coop project! Love free supplies :D

I am hating winter already! Slipped and slided down my hill to my son's bus stop. Slid all the way up my hill. I had 2 people behind me so I couldn't even back down and try again. We only have a coating and we have some big flakes coming down. Hate to see how my road looks when sxhool is over. We live on a private road that gets now salt only rocks and tge plow guy never puts his plow down completely and leaves a nice layer of snow/ice on my road. It's a steep curvy hill to get to my house. Being on a cul-de-sac, only one way in and out!

Are we neighbors? You've described my driveway to a 'T'. Actually it's a private road, but we lived here alone for so long, got used to referring to it as a driveway. Plowing with no salt is a huge hazard for us. My 23 yr old used to have to sleep over a friends in Kennett whenever is snowed as she didn't have 4WD. :(

We are expecting heavy rains, I'm trying to get the runs cleared out and dry leaves put down before it's a wet muddy mess out there. Stopped inside for something to eat…gonna be hard to get back out there in the cold. I found the girls hiding spot this weekend, then I started playing around with the eggs…. There is usually a contest on the NYD hatch with pics like these:

I used to have a little tracker with 4x4 but my kids out grew it. I now have a buick rendezvous with all wheel drive but the all wheel drive isn't worked. I swear the shop that did my alignement messed it up. They are the only ones that touched my car and the day after they touched it, it stopped working. We have alot of trees lining my road and it ices up on the curvy uphill part. The rocks dont help, we need salt. Very pretty assortment of egg colors and nice designs. :)

To everyone considering Turkey next year:

Get eggs and hatch the cinco Dr Mayo hatch! Timing is perfect. Turkey eggs take 28 days, not 21. Hatch some chickens as tutors for the Turkey, poults aren't real bright, tutors teach them to eat and drink. They are as easy to raise as chickens. Inquisitive friendly, noisy as they get older. Coops need to be a little bigger, but mine rarely went inside.
As a bonus, wild Turkey came in to check them out! That was cool!

Have you seen the pet turkey commerical?

Funny! I think it is my second favorite. I like the little girl that doesn't want her raisins to turn into grapes.

I too think I may raise a turkey next year. Thanks for the timing help!

I am so glad I got most of the important chores done yesterday.
I built the bases to my last two 6' x 2' breeding cages and cleaned the other 4 out. I also rearranged and swept most of the floor. Dewey and Devon bagged up half the truck load of shavings before we all got to cold and it it was getting to dark to do anymore. I moved all the bantams in to the big shed after that. Since the other pens are done, the only birds outside now are the Ameraucanas, Turkeys and Geese. The Ams are going to be in the shed, too. I can't decide on what to do with the turkeys, but I have an idea. OH! I used to be totally against it, but I set up a timer for my shed lights. I have 1-3 eggs coming in per WEEK and I am sick of it. Most of my flock is POL with only about 18-20 older girls that should be laying.

I'll post pics later today or tomorrow. Depends on if I want to go outside or not.

Well, think I have anther baby chick taken by a hawk...came back from running errands and the birds were sounding the alarm...all the big folk were hiding under a bush....found a blood/feather spot behind the coop....the color of the feathers seemed gray and some about 4" long....I thought them too big for the baby and didn't seem GLW-ish.....but I could only find one chick hiding will check around a bit later....
