Dennis:

I will have CCL roo over BO, GLW, Marans, and maybe Dorkings hatchings eggs...in the spring...If you want to do a bater, Sally Sunshine (who used to be on here) had pretty good instructions...on this site....

The only pure breed CCLs I know of is H&H near Harrisburg....I do have a contact from SC who said she will be traveling to State College to visit in the summer and have some pullets or eggs to sell along the way....who knows....

oh my responding to myself.....lol...forgot to add this link....

Dennis:

There is a hybrid CCL: thread .....https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/825092/cream-legbar-hybrid-thread ....my understanding is limited, but...depending on the cross....you may have some auto sexing carry through....but it may not be perfect or carried forward....

Hi !
My name is Dennis and I'm new to BYC, but not new to keeping poultry (off and on, but starting about 40 years ago). I'm hoping to connect with other poultry enthusiasts in SE PA. My birds are really owned and maintained by my nieces on a dairy farm in Northern Chester County. I'm the uncle who helps and advises them.

I have several "projects" in the works that I am looking for help with. First, I am going to try building my own incubator this winter to increase the number of eggs I can incubate at one time. I've used the styrofoam incubators a lot in the past with reasonable success, but I'm pretty sure I can make a much better cabinet-type. I'm interested in buying some hatching eggs from local people next spring, especially any of the auto-sexing varieties, like Cream Legbars.

Secondly, I want to buy some more guineas, but don't really need 30 of them (the minimum required by the Guinea Farm in Iowa). I want to get Buff Dunbars because they are color sexable. If anyone is interested in buying some guinea keets next year, let me know and maybe we can split an order.

Hi Dennis and welcome! I'm in Chester County, keep me in mind for guineas in the spring...

All: I think I've found a source for these....anybody want any just pm me....I am going to use one for a hawk protector...but, its a pretty good start to a 4x4 coop......
I love this! Looks like a goat shelter to me!! I took a page outa Wing's book last night and did some hatching egg bidding on e-bay (after MsLadyHawke got me inebriated)...it appears I may have to pay Way too much money on WAY too few eggs for a variety that I do NOT currently own! Just WHAT was I thinking??!!.... Umm something like this... 'Ooooo....pretty.....CLICK'. I need to change my paypal password, and not tell me the new one. Actually, I could just change it and not write it down, that'll do it.

I know Spring is awhile away, but I was wondering what everyone was planting. I was gonna plant a pumpkin plant or two, a watermelon plant, peas, lettuce, tomatoes, peppers, potatoes, and strawberries. I have a medium sized garden, probably 15x12 feet.

I know I asked this before, but does anyone in Western PA (can't really travel that far from northwest Westmoreland County. Would travel about an hour) have a healthy bantam cochin hen? I'd prefer to stay away from light colors. I have a free range flock, and while I do have a rooster, he's still young and learning the ropes of roostery. If you have a particularly broody hen, I'd LOVE that. I'm looking for a girl who will hatch me lots of babies.

I have run into a dilemma & may have to get rid of a lot of birds really fast if we don't find a place in the next few days. Please pray for us. I have way too much money wrapped up in these birds to just lose everything or have to give them away. It looks as if it may come down to getting rid of all of the animals or all of us including the animals being homeless if we don't find something in the next day or 2.
I do need to sell a bunch of ducks & 3 geese even if I can keep the rest. If anyone is interested in any of the birds, bunnies or goats please pm me.

That's such a shame. Praying for you guys. I'll ask around.

today the birds had turkey for the first time..it was the leftover carcass from yesterday. I have never seen them so active, crazy active....
D.gif
they were all "jacked-up", like i gave them some crazy...they were running around all day, and it was cold. They usually just hang out, scratch here and there in this cold, but today...wayyy weird! I went out quite a few times today to 'check' on them...at one point I though they ate the bones too!!
Literally..only the bones were left, absolutely NO soft tissue on that carcass and it was in several pieces spread out all over the run. When I went around to clean things up, (cause I do NOT want to entice critters anymore than what they already are), the birds were following me around, jumping at the bowl I was putting the bones into. They were really something to watch today...going to have to give them "meat" more often!!
