anybody else have completely different sleep patterns than another and constantly battle over it??

No battle here, but after decades of swing shift, please explain what a sleep pattern is? I have had weeks my shift has changed daily and I ended up working all 24 hours. Also did a 25 hour shift one day.

my point exactly,,,after years of this kind of work,,,having that set schedule of early to bed early to rise, just does not happen......I to can go days without sleep and think of it as normal,,,but when I crash I expect to be left alone,,,,I do not really care if it's 8 am and things need done....

guess I am in the wrong profession,,,everyone seems to think that birds need fed  early in the morning......my chickens seem perfectly happy to see me at midnight....

and who says I can not mow the grass at 10pm in the summer.....that is what the headlights are there for right...

just a rant about society and the so called normal order of things...

Been there, done that. Worked crazy shifts for years. I now follow a schedule determined by my children. Up at 6am, to bed by about 8-9pm. Weekends, holidays & summer vacation shift a couple hours later since we don't have to be up as early. Only conflict with the critters is that I lock mine up at night so they really do need to be let out at a reasonable hour.
As for mowing, coop construction, etc., as long as it's not bothering any neighbors I see no problem with it. What annoys me is the ones banging around at 6am right outside my window or blaring their stereo at midnight when my kids have to get up for school.

Just Googled them, Orpington was on my list. Those are cool looking - like ghosts, sort of. I think maybe I will push for coop building. When do you want to get rid of them?

I'm not in a rush to get rid of them. They are very pretty. Here are some pics of them... as hatchlings and now

And here is the breeder stock I bought them from (bought hatching eggs). These birds are the breeder's...

Hey, just a random question...

What do you guys think about feeding my (future) chickens my "leftover" parrot food? I feed my parrots a high quality organic pelleted food (Harrison's) and a mix of dried fruits and nuts. Everything is then mixed with some Red Palm Oil and some Vitamin A (human grade from capsules). The parrots pick through their food and eat what they like, but there is always a goodly amount that is left over in their dishes, even after a week. They are medium sized parrots, one is an African grey and one is an Amazon which is only slightly bigger.

It just seems a waste to keep throwing this food away, especially if it would be a once a week chicken treat, probably no more than 2 cups in total. Thanks in advance for advice!

P.S.: The dog only gets dry dog food, lol.

Thanks for your help....brought the girl in this morning....she refused to eat.....nothing else seems out of the ordinary and she has good body weight, but refused scrambled eggs and is skid-ish around me....I decided to wazine her water as well as the rest of the crew...I'll give her a day and to adjust and see if I can get her interested in food....who knows...
