aww, Im sorry you had to cull, Im not looking forward to that day EVER!!The roosters have been gone for two days. I have not been on here since, and I am finding it is very hard. I wish I hadn't done it! But, I really didn't have a choice. 7 roosters is too many mouths not returning the favor. Red, the older rooster (five month cockerel) is very happy to be the hot shot. The 4 hens are happy to be free of anyone mating with them (Red hasn't quite gotten that he is allowed now), but Penny misses her brothers, and just kinda mopes. I think she will be fine in a day or so. I guess I will be too.
It is so quiet, so calm, and so RED out there! I didn't know I would miss all the noise, and flashes of white.
Anyway, the chicks are doing okay. Cadburry is telling them that I belong to HER, and they better let her do what she wants! Red is just checking them out without touching them. All in all, everyone is okay with the chicks. The chicks need to realize that they outnumber the big birds. 15 to 7! They are also as big as Cadburry, and not too much smaller than the rest!
Ugh! Anyone else get upset after their first time culling?
if you were closer, i would love to have all of them, just for yard candy, coons wiped me out of my cochins a couple of months ago,
all but one mille fleur roo, and a couple of young ones, l love to see them running around the yard.![]()

i still have the one adult rooster, he runs free in the yard, hangs around the chicken tractors where i have young ones growing up, when its time to feed, he comes toward the house and waits to walk us over, just love that little man, and believe me, hes the cock of the walk lolLove it when my little fuzzy butts are running well waddling around the yard too!! These by far are my fav birds. The bantams just don't seem to do the damage that LF do.
sometimes at the fayette buy, sell, trade you can find marans, ee's, but you do have to watch to make sure they're not to old to laylol I hear ya. I can not WAITE to get some of them.. LOVE color in my basket!!

There were some VERY nice birds there. I think the key is to get there as early as you can so you have more choices. We're there nice birds or do you just recommend going just to look?
