Well, I'm exhausted already :-/. I thought I'd help DH by getting outside and working on digging out some of our coop's Foundation holes since I know how exhausted he's going to be after work as it is. I did one whole hole. I'm hoping I can get at least one more done before he comes home but I don't know. There's a ton of rocks and roots and stupid clay dirt. Yuck. I'm taking a break lol.

been there, will not go there again....we found a local neighbor to rent a post pounder from....

I was hesitant to offer that,,,,,,,,I do not want to put off those that do not process...BUT...

seems to be a real need for others to learn,,, and after you do you will be amazed how easy the process is (well after the initial killing part, that is still tough even for me)     ......and the satisfaction of eating what you raised...

I'm glad! Going to bookmark that one for the future....

I just want to say I'm very disappointed in everyone here. No one was kind enough to warn how stinkin' cute my chicks would be! I know they're hatchery stock, but they are so fun to watch and handle! I like watching them sleep, watching them peep, watching them peck, and watching them play 'keep away' with a mealworm. Even DH Is enamored, although he won't admit it. I have sent pictures and videos to friends and clients. I am already telling friends and family little stories about the cute things the chicks did. I find myself watching 'Chick TV' quite often. Good thing I don't have a full time job right now....

Just wanted everyone to know....I have officially crossed over....

I have a post pounder for t-posts, if needed, but its buried under snow right now. So are a lot of things. Wonder what I'll find come spring!
Wings pocket makes things so easy! Just saying.

I think the Bator is going to be fired up real soon. SFH's seem to be laying more regularly now. Might as well get ready for light on, light off, light on, light off..... (light bulbs are my heaters for those who don't know)

Yeah, I got my butt removed from the Ameraucana thread for 8 months because of the Ameraucana/EE topic. I steer clear of it. It makes my blood boil every time I see it brought up. I can't believe how dumb some people are.

Just offered this on one of the facebook pages, and will offer here,

for those first time processors or even those just a little rusty,,,,,,,,I will gladly help you out and walk you thru the process...you would need to bring the birds to me, preferrably on a saturday....and bring coolers or other packaging supplies...I do have the scalders and pluckers for the process, or if you would rather learn to do it all by hand, I could do that also...

I know to some this just sounds wrong, but for others it is something they really want to learn

and folks I will sometimes work for a big plate of baked goodies. you would be surprised the things we barter for....

I want to learn, but yes, you are a bit to far. My person charges me $1.50-2 for chickens and $5 for ducks, geese and turkeys. It can get costly if you have 30-40 chickens and 10 ducks.

ETA: I'd make you cranberry macadamia nut cookies in exchange!

Hmmm...what is a post pounder? Will be putting up a proper fence once the ground thaws. Called places about renting post hole digger thing. Same thing or not? Is it manual or automatic lol!! I'm getting too old to be digging these stupid holes. I'd be better off going out there with a spoon and not killing myself with a pic.
