Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

  I have a good...bad issue, well for me bad cause I am not doing the "chick" thang at the moment...
Hen-Bree is broody..not just "oh, I think I'll sit for a little bit here"..oh no...she is all out CRAZY broody..and she isn't even sitting on ANYTHING 99% of the time, sometimes she will sit on someone elses egg...she is not laying, she has de-feathered herself on the underside to 'soften' the nest, she will just sit there all; day ....so I pick her up, she stays in that "i am sitting on something" position until she get's the motivation to go and eat..peck around a little, get a drink..and poop the most stinkiest, green thing I ever saw:eek: :sick ....yep.
I am trying to talk DH into may be getting something at TSC.:smack ...we are getting our meaty and turkey pullets on the 3rd on May...Does anyone think she would "mother" them for a bit??..maybe help to snap-her out of this craziness...We aren't going to do anything about her until we get back...like, maybe separate her from the rest, and try to coax her out of broodiness.... ....If anyone has any suggestions...BESIDES..more birds...geesh:p ....I would love to hear them...Thank you-Danielle:)

Just swing by wingstone, I'm sure she can supply you with something for her to sit on. Then she'll be a happy chicken!
What's a few more birds among friends?

Don't thank me, Glad I could help. Always here with a suggestion.

Welcome to all the new folks.

I've been enabled, so I guess I'm back. Sally Sunshine's post about the blue salmon faverolles sucked me right back in. :lau I had been doing such a fine job of resisting new birds this year, til now.

Set 25 Narri turkey eggs yesterday too, and put aside some faverolles and marans eggs to set. Just finally separated some of the Ameraucanas into a breeding pen yesterday.

Let the games begin!

Welcome back
The only way to describe what we do is total insanity,,,,we know we should not add anything new but that inner voice in our heads overrides all else...

Thanks :) we do Love our chickens! We gave away our former flock at the end of last year :-(. But I am now rebulding our little backyard flock :) we live right in town, so we are keeping the flock to just 8...
we are not just chicken crazy, but beekeeping crazy, mix in a half dozen kids and the fun never ends :)

Well yes,
How about some bantam Cochin eggs, fetility is great and you can have twice as many since they are bantam,,,or how about a few duck eggs, scovies are mute so no one would know they were there...or maybe quail, them you ( or hubby, in your case) can have dinner in as little as 6 weeks.

Hey, I am just helping the poultry pimp

Bees, did you say bees?

I know there are people on here looking for raw honey, myself included, so you fit right in!

I'd raise them myself, but one sting and if be down for a week. My neighbor would love it for his organic orchard, though

Oh my yes! We love our bees! We have 1 hive right here in our backyard, and 2,soon to be more in other locations. All we do is strain the honey, we would rather have it that way, my hubby is also going to try comb honey this year. Our chickens in the past have enjoyed hanging out at the hive... Snacks:p
Lol my husband is the main beekeeper, and is allergic! As he says, what fun is a hobby if there isn't a little danger.....

I went to my friend today and he gave me 18 fertile hen eggs, and he gave me 3 fertile duck eggs as well and I don't want them to go to waste, as I also wanted to hatch them so what do I do, can I hatch them together or what.
(I have a sixty egg incubator so space isn't a problem) Help!
