Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

Actually sounds fun to me. Have a bottle of bubble bath just in case I ever get a hot tub! Did I ever mention how much I like Dollar Tree? Problem is how much I but since it's "only a dollar".
I can not get out of that place less than $10.00!!:p ....it's "only a dollar"..yeah, that adds up pretty quick when your havin' fun!!;)
Is anybody else as bad as me with time management, it is hard to believe that anything gets food or water....it gets worse towards the end of the week, when I am also tired,, I just gave the quail a scoopof rabbit pellet and only nnotices when I walked back thru and they were chattering at me... Someday I will have just enough time for everything.
:hugs ...take two of these and call me in the morning... Got some pics of the peeps last night...any guess at what they may be..male/female??...I have not a clue, but i do know it could be either-or.. .. Chick #1... Chick#2 They are cute little buggers..never saw one so white..all the other Marans-chicks I ever had where like #1 chick..looked like little penguins... Here is Ginger..she is still broody..I have done everything...and I mean everything to try and get this bird back to her old-laying self again, but it just isn't happening. She isn't getting eggs or chicks cause I am still trying to figure out what i am doing with the two I have now...so, If anyone has any suggestions..I am ALL ears!! ....omg, DH just said.."soup"....
Ginger is WAY too pretty to eat. Put some eggs under her.
Need and opinion, my junior roo, about 15 weeks, covered my outcast orp yesterday and covered my dork mix today(she is two weeks older)....well the question is, does junior roo think my dork mix is near laying an egg and wanted to cover her....or is he just being a rooster?
I vote: Just being a Roo.

Humm:

I tithe my dollar tree....

Agree, ginger needs a few more...(though the white chick is a real cutie!!!)

and regarding roo behavior, I have another orp who has gone off line on the egg laying....she has been demonstrating the dominance thing with the wing dance that roos do....but is clearly subordnante to the main roo...He covers all the other girls but he leaves her alone...I think he knows who is laying eggs and won't waste his effort ....I dunno...

on another note, the baby roo (about 7 weeks) is still roosting right next to dad...all the big girls give him a hard time except the orp mentioned, if I throw scratch, she will let him eat with her while the other girls all chase him off the food....who knows....

Hello everyone! I am so happy I found this thread. I am new to chickens, we got our 4 girls 2 months ago. My husband is already working on building a bigger coop, I am just in love with these girls and ready to add more to our family! We live about 35 miles north east of Pittsburgh, just wondering if anyone else is close.

Yay! More members from this side of the state! What breeds do you have?

Hello! We have 1 black australorp, 1 barred rock, and 2 silver laced Wyandotte. We are going to add a few more in about a month.

I have these too, except my Wyandottes are Gold Laced and Columbian. When I ordered the Silver Laced they didn't have any so they replaced them with Columbian. I have one Columbian, one Australorp and one barred rock that absolutely love to sit on my lap and be pet. They are so cool!

I am about an hour and a half south west of you in little Washington (PA).

Yet another predator attack, this time it was one of the old silkie girls, and a little different this title, it was taken tnru the fence and only took head and neck..

Guess I have an early morning date with a tree, a large cup of coffee and a long barrel with handle.

Looks like we are on all sides of Pittsburgh... I'm about 35 miles northwest of the city. We're just starting out with chickens and have 3 Rhode Island Reds, 4 Black Australorps, 1 Blue Cochin, and one RIR/unknown cross (maybe a polish? Developing some funky head feathers, lol). Our chicks are about 4-5 weeks old, chicken coop is in progress... hoping to get these chickens out of the house in the next week or so since I'm due with our third little (human) girl in just 3 1/2 weeks! Nothing like building a chicken coop at 8 1/2 months pregnant!

Now if only I could decide on the coop flooring...

Sorry you lost another one wing!

It's starting to sound like you need a farm dog... not a pet type dog, but one who can stay at the farm loose even when you aren't there.... or even in the coop/run with the birds. There are a handful of viable breed options, though even a mutt cross may work out good for you.

I am hoping this issue clears up when we are there more, except for critters the place is kind of quiet, .. Dogs are not possible right now, I work long hours at very little notice, no time for training.
