So, how long after you see a pullet hanging in the nest box and throwing straw on her back should I expect an egg? Lilly (EE) had been squatting for about a week now. Her comb is big and red. I've seen her in the nest boxes twice the past couple evenings. Tonight she was actually lounging in there, rearranging the straw around her, rolling the fake egg under her and throwing straw on her back lol. Cloud had been the only one laying for a week straight now. She took today off. I told her she deserves it! I have 12 other girls who need to get on the ball! Lol. I'm also DYING for my first EE egg :)

Just watched Lone Survivor. Oh.My.Goodness. If you haven't watched it, get in your car RIGHT NOW and go to your nearest redbox and rent it. And watch it. It's the BEST.

Throwing straw over the back usually means that an egg is coming within hours. You should expect one tomorrow morning. :)

Don't be mad if I'm wrong...

I was in craigslist and found this for anyone whos close...https://pittsburgh.craigslist.org/grd/4591891140.html

Oh, that's in my neck of the woods... but our chicks are only 4-5 weeks old still, I'm assuming this would be something you'd feed a laying hen? Still learning all the ins and outs of chicken care!

In other news, I've been SO frustrated with my coop build. We're (I say we, but the hubs is always working and basically no help) using pallets for the floor and two long walls and all was going smoothly until I got to the last two pallets for the second wall. They are the nicest ones, but they are made of the hardest wood ever! Our tool collection is pathetic and so I had to go out and buy a drill bit to pre-drill the holes because the cheap one I had overheated and broke trying to drill through this ridiculous wood. It still isn't working though... I should have got a slightly bigger one because the wood is just too hard. So I'm using a slightly too big drill bit instead to pre-drill the holes (because it's what we have and it's too hard to get back out to the hardware store with two little kids and a big pregnant belly living in the middle of nowhere), seems to be holding together just fine but I really want it done 'right'. Hoping things go more smoothly tomorrow because these chicks need a home before baby day in the next couple weeks!

Oh my, good luck! I know when we were working on our coop, my husband was always at work and I was doing a lot of it on my own. It's definitely rough work. I just can't imagine doing it with a big pregnant belly too! Just try to take a deep breath and relax. It'll get done. Once you get past that hard part, hopefully everything will just slip into place :)

I have a gardening question and thought maybe you guys could help me out. This is my first year with a garden and it looks like I planted too many cucumber plants! Does anybody have any ideas on what to do with them? I don't want to make pickles :/ . It also looks like I might have planted my pumpkins to early. They are already orange. I am only going to use them for fall decorating, but how do I keep them from rotting? I have enjoyed my garden this year, and have a lot to learn. Any advice would be great.
