Good morning, Mom!
I wish I had your cucumbers! The chickens will eat them. You can freeze them (since you don't want to can) for the chickens for winter and spring use. The pumpkins are a natural dewormer. Give them the whole pumpkin. If it is big enough, they will climb inside to eat it. It is very amusing. You can make pumpkin pie too. Pumpkin cookies with raisins and walnuts are my favorite.

I have a gardening question and thought maybe you guys could help me out. This is my first year with a garden and it looks like I planted too many cucumber plants! Does anybody have any ideas on what to do with them? I don't want to make pickles

. It also looks like I might have planted my pumpkins to early. They are already orange. I am only going to use them for fall decorating, but how do I keep them from rotting? I have enjoyed my garden this year, and have a lot to learn. Any advice would be great.

Leave the pumpkins on the vine until you are ready to use them. They will keep quite nicely there and probably store up more sugars and vitamins.

I would share the extra cukes with neighbors and co-workers. It's more traditional to do this with zucchini, so the cukes will be a welcome change.

Or put them out at the end of your driveway with a sign "25 cents each - 5/$1" and a little can with a slot in the lid for the money.

Yes, and then give me the address, cause I'm a little short on cash.
;)

JK... I do love the places that use the honor system.

And I had hoped to make pickles and had zero cukes grow!

As a child I always helped my mom can stuff. It's time I start doing it again. There are certain things it's just hard to buy.

I wish I could still do these things, it is hard work and arthritic hands get way to painful with all the cutting and dicing of things, but if you do any on a Sunday when I have time, I would gladly come over to help..

I do miss the rows of jars lined up or winter use, picture perfect.

I have not gotten around to it, but I have a few old roostes in the freezer, I want to try cunning that meat for quick meals.

See I knew you guys would come thru ;). In another week or two I'm gonna need ideas for tomatoes. Once again planted WAY to many.
