Come on chicks!!!All you people telling me not to worry were RIGHT! One of Cookie's eggs is peeping, one is scratching. Both are the pure BCM eggs. Still waiting on the other two to do something but I'm SO EXCITED!

One stop shop,
I have Californian rabbits, 7 weeks old today...from CC's stock...
And the Cornish chicks all in one place.....
just a thought , but if this should happen again..you could always cook up those eggs and givem' back to the chickens...maybe that would be okay?..shouldn't hurt them being under there..should it?Thought my chickens slowed down for the year...Turns out they are just covering their eggs with the pine shaving...Had 6 days of eggs covered! Husband is very weird about eating eggs that are kept in coop. So had to throw them awayBut on the bright side at least now I can start collecting the eggs again. I did a small introduction between Lucky and out Flock, Lucky is only 2 weeks old so it was done between fencing. Pox, our rooster seemed to be curious and like he might "adopt" her. Is it normal for roosters to be like this? I always thought if anyone would be an issue it would be him LOL Our top hen, Dumpling also seemed interested, but friendly. Both pox and Dumpling are Speckled Sussex.![]()
oh i really hope so....cause I can't wait to start getting eggs again..and from your grand-kids!!I can tell you for a fact that you don't need artificial light. I have hatched in July and August. The girls all began when they were due in November and December. Come to think of it, a late August hatch began on time too.

Welcome to the fun!Collegeville pa here
Hey Barbiegirl, I'm in albrightsville on vacation, where are you?Hi and welcome from the Poconos!
Waiting for pictures!Thank you everyone for your kind comments about our Ellie Bellie. Yes, after all of my hard searching. I went to a chicken swap this morning not expecting to find any call ducks, and there were so many to choose from. There were more than I've ever seen at a swap at one time. One guy was selling a silver Appleyard trio that was beautiful for 60 dollars. I love Silver Appleyard, Snowy, and Grey call drakes, but I like Chuck and Tuck moreIf I wasn't trying to balance the flock already, I would have bought the snowy and SA drakes in a heartbeat. Such cuties. Then I found two pairs and I asked the man if he would sell me just the hens and he said no, but when I explained my dilemma about having two drakes he sold me both hens for $20(!!!). So I don't need hens anymore, but thank you
I'm gonna post pictures in a little bit.
So cute! Stop tempting me.......
Congrats! Is it unhealthy for a chicken to be broody so often? Because my chicken, when she went broody, got fairly thin. But then again, she was just trying to hatch a golf ball.Gracie hatched Dec 1, 2013... and this is her third hatch for 2014. She is a perpetual broody... and an awesome mama... so I don't see her quitting anytime soon! So far this year I think we are at about 28, I quit counting a while back so would have to check the calendar to get an exact count. And yesterday another of our Silver Pencil Rocks went into a box an is looking like she is going to stick for her 2nd hatch of the year. That means all 5 of the SPRs have at least 2 broods this year and one had 3.... I caught another SPR in the box today doing the pancake thing but pitched her out into the yard and told her enough is enough!! LOL... but somehow I don't think it will be that easy! If the 2nd SPR does go broody I will just let them share an area so they hatch together. The SPRs have been awesome about sharing hatches and chicks and it makes it easier for everyone when they do that.
What does coyote scat look like? My neighbor said we have one that roams in the suburbs. Are they nocturnal?Hello & Welcome**Blarney- Awesome coop!! As if anything touched by those Irish hands wouldn't come out looking great
!! **Wing & whoever else involved in the paraffin dip conversation..."Sally's" beauty supply has it, i think in different scents too...and Walmart did have some..has been awhile since i have even had to look....I used to have a paraffin dip machine in my salon..it is so nice and makes your aching hands feel so much better
.. if you do happen to have a beautician license, there is also "Cosmo Prof", but you do need a license to get in...they have an awesome assortment of waxes. **Stake..I would LOVE to get my hands on some of those, but like Auroradream..unfortunately i am a longgg ways away...
..total bummer! I went to close everyone up tonight and just out of curiosity..wanted to see where everyone was sleeping...well, Ginger & Cordon are laying in the nest boxes with the babies, who are now almost 12 weeks(Wednesday)..the "babies " are sitting on their "moms"...
crazy birds...maybe they are cold?... Also...this is a little bit worry-some...we have found coyote scat at the side of the chicken shed...so, they..or it have been here, but have not.. as of yet..caused any issue for us.
We are holding hope that it has found "greener" pastures to live or someone around here has finally caught this thing. It has taken out over 20 chickens from my neighbor on the hill and two of her ducks, they have taken shots, but have missed....,has attacked a small dog in this neighborhood..and just has been an all around menace.....really need to get this animal.."under-control"....so to speak. Not going outside with "protection", especially now that the grand daughter is here so much! Hope all and theirs are well and warm tonight! Today was the first day we turned on the propane heater...a very real bummer!:/
Wing, if I had even a little more room, I would take you up on that for sure.Made a last minute decision to do 1 more batch of Cornish for the year....problem is I need to take a least 100, did not want that many this time around.....anybody local want one Cornish chicks or $1 each...
