Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

Since someone mentioned food, I have to share our adventure. Today we shredded and packed 200 lbs of cabbage for sauerkraut. I'm exhausted and my hands are KILLING me lol. The good news is its done for and we'll just have to can it in 7 weeks.

I just dug thru the freezer today and we only have 2 bags left from last years batch. I'm going to order cabbage this week so we can get our crocks full and the kraut ready in time for New Years! We always have a half gallon jar in the fridge. I eat a cup everyday!

A little weird to be excited but I am anyway. We caught our buff orpington rooster getting a piggy back ride (that is how we explain it to our 4 year old) from one of the buff hens today. They hatched in spring so I've been hoping for a good breeding pair. Hubby won't let me set eggs again until next spring and I can't wait!!

Have a question about Quail for you.....
i know i said we are starting RABBITS in the spring, but DH is asking about how/why do quail have to be in a pen above ground....Once we enclose the large hen coop,(which is looking sooner rather tan later now), we will have this coop, *(very simial to the one we have ), to work with...in other words , more animals..heehee

, so...was wondering if it would be okay for quail?

..I love Orps!

Interesting, how well did they get along, what about them sharing food, did the chickens peck at them. Wonder if rabbits could share one large pen with bantams.....just thinking out loud here.
at first when we put the three rabbits in, they went up , well tried , to go up to the chickens who ran with the rabbits hopping behind them, then the chickens turned around and chased the rabbits with a peck or two on the rump, now they don't even noticed each other, they will eat out of the same pan ,if they both want some cracked corn but the chickens leave the rabbit food alone, water bowl , they both use the same one so we took the chickens bowl out
they say that rabbits like their own cage but we had two does and the buck in the yard and they got along fine, when they stretched out, it was all three together, side by side, but we took the one doe out and put her into a large cage, she had four little ones in the yard in a big barrel and when they turned four weeks old had to have a place where we could watch them to make sure they were eating on their own.
