Wow, what an awesome day!!. ..where can you live that it is like this in the winter all the time?.... Started the applesauce today, this is the first time I have ever made it... Only used about 1/3 rd of the garden cart, just trying to do one batch at a time so I don't get too overwhelmed. It turned out awesome!! SOOO GOOD!! ...12 pounds of apples & only added 3/4c of organic raw sugar to the entire batch! This really helped get me into getting the rest of this finished!..Going to be doing more tomorrow, with the help of G-baby, should be real fun! Have all the jars & such ready to go, so all there will be to do is prep the apples! That up-side down jar did seal, just needed a talking to. It never ceases to amaze me how you start out with so much product and end up with only a few jars.
Today was such a BEAUTIFUL day! It was so wonderful to be able to spend time outside in a t-shirt and not a big heavy coat, freezing to death lol. Chickens loved it to. They were off running all over the place, enjoying it. I even saw a few sun Bathers
Look who's on the roost! Last night, I went in and gave them a bit of a push. They've been pooping up the nest boxes from sleeping in them so I went in and put mama and all the babies up on the roost. Tonight, she took them there on her own
Someone here posted back in early September about Amazon having a deal on the heated water bowls. I bought 6 (under 2 accounts) and it looks like the price is now more than $20 higher (35 vs 14). I forget who posted that - but thank you! You saved me over $125 dollars! I guess it really pays to watch for deals on out of season items. I wonder if anyone will have any on sale on Black Friday?
Blah..swing-shift is the worst... ...hope you acclimate well! you really don't "live" without bacon..you just sort-of exist... ... yeah, I hate it when THAT happens.. ..hahaha....I used to have a cockatiel..'Fred'..he was silly, thought he was a dog..taught him to whistle the theme for "the good, the bad, and the ugly" movie.. fingers crossed for you too on the "egg song"....i wish someone would put a good word in for me with these birds...I am wondering why I keep talking DH out-of having pot-pie...would be nice to have at least one of them laying right now..:/
I've had a cockatiel too, they've got nothing on a determined Grey. She can be a downright pain in the butt, but we love her. She is a rehomed animal too, so I'm sure some of her behavior is learned bad habits.

I would buy them..... but you live 6 hours away...... But if you happen to be in western pa I'll buy em. Just wondering how much. There is a person about 45 min away from me in NY that sell them for 6 dollars a piece... AS CHICKS. That seemed like a lot to me and a long drive.

I think they run 5-6 here. I had eggs shipped from NC the other year, if you have an incubator and quail rails. I believe it was $85 for 200 eggs+. iirc the hatch rate was in the 40% range my first time, around 75 little ones. They are fun to watch hatch. Like watching popcorn pop, lol.
Can you please say a prayer for my cousins. They live on the outskirts of Ferguson Mo. They are expecting a new baby in a few weeks and had stuff in a storage locker in Ferguson and it was burnt to the ground last night.

I might just do that. It is just such a hassle buying quail trays and then hatch them and then after that raise them in the house. After I get my new big incubator and build a new brooder I might buy some eggs. But who noes when that is...... I just thought 6 was a lot for a day old chick that could drop dead any second.
