Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

Dh is in upstate NY. I think he is headed for Boston. I'll find out tonight. If you aren't a New Englander, they put snowplows out side by side. You can't get around them, and traffic gets backed way up. It's worse than an accident sometimes!
They are getting a foot plus.

My initial plan didn't work out either. I wanted only 6 hens, 1 silkie because they looked like they had fur boots, hats and coats on and they were so cute, and 5 easter eggers. That didn't happen. I started with 6 silver laced wyandottes. I no longer have them and I have way more than just the 6 I only wanted

I originally only wanted four...a friend convinced me that one would die and one would be a roo...so I got 6.....only one of the original 6 is still around and I am at 13....though I did lose two of the original BOs in the past couple of months to predation...my biggest number was 17 and I am optimal around 15....I read somewhere that 14 is the min # for a sustainable flock...(from PA AG).....

Well today was a good day to spoil the birds...
Fixed a giant bowl of good stuff...mix of boiled fish, bird seed and cooked oatmeal..

Headed out and we were met by the welcoming committee (3 young Light Sussex)

They got their treat right on the porch...

Inside birds dove into the treat, thankfully we had many dishes to spread them out...

The Light Sussex hen seems to like hanging with Andre the WR...

@fisherlady My girls got a treat today of oatmeal, scratch, mealworms and a swish of honey. And of course some hot water to make it warm.

My broody is acting like she doesn't give a hoot about her chicks. Do you think its a good idea to let her outside and keep the chicks inside until we get a few warmer days?

I just put up a note on the broody thread for you.

Try getting them all to a cooler location to begin transitioning, hopefully you can get in a few days before she is done with them completely. When she is done she will peck at them and not let them near her. It sounds like she is getting cabin fever even if she is not completely done with them.

first I will try this the politically correct, keep the game warden happy way...

Dear hawk and family,
while i am flattered that you like my establishment enough to stop in for a daily meal, i must insist that you move on to another.

PS
the pictures of you eating your grass fed meal were not appreciated either..

Sincerely
****** off chicken keeper

If this tactic does not work I will need to go with the way that granddaddy taught...
