Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

I know, I worry every time we use the heat lamp. Last night was the first night we used it since last winter. Maybe 1 more night then it might be warm enough although Sunday is predicted -4 as an actual temp.

My barn isnt very well climate controled seeing as it was built back in the days that washington was president!! However bedding down thick with hay seems to be doing well for my layers and silkies. Even my young buffs and leghorn/barred rock mix are doing just fine. Can't wait until the move in april. Heading to ulster pa and our barn and coops there are better insulated than the house lmao

be extra careful folks, lock up on time, do what you have to the wildlife is hungry and food supply is scarce...I will not go into detail but I have taken a hard hit over the last few days, hard enough that for many of you would mean the end of chickens..

my camera's will not work in this cold, cannot keep batteries charged,,but anyone with wildlife knowledge who might be able to help figure out what I am up against, send pm and I will give the details..

I haven't even seen wildlife movement here, just lucky, I think.
Only predator I've seen here is a feral cat, and I've only ever seen his tracks around the outside of the runs.

Likely critters in your location, fox, coon, coyote, normal winged predators, cats, dogs. There are also weasel and mink around. I doubt possum or skunk would do make hits.

How many we talking?

That sucks!! Sorry to hear you lost so many... If it did a lot of carnage but didn't take much I would look for stray dogs, seems like they are nasty with killing more than they will eat. Many other possible suspects though, as CC mentioned.

I just found out that the low for Sunday in our area is supposed to be -14 :/ I'm NOT looking forward to that. I swore I wouldn't heat the coop but I think we may run a heat lamp just on Sunday. That's just insanely cold.

do you have fishers in your area? They could be the culprit. I know that around here they're notorious for killing small animals. We haven't had an issue yet *knock on wood* but we have seen them around.

trying to spare people the details of a bloodbath, but yes, a lot just killed for sport.
fire power will be waiting tonight.
I should add that whatever  it is it carried a 12 pound  scovy over a fence

That sounds like dogs or coyotes...maybe a coydog (coyote/dog cross). Not much else big enough to drag a scovy over a fence...unless it was a bear or cougar (do you have those over there?)
