wingstone.................what do you think it is? you have hinted but not said.......

bear, coyote, fox, ............people..........dogs..........cougar?

27 lost...........is unfathomable.................I am so sorry for you and the birds left.......if there are any........

that would also be an extremely terrible thing to come across...........sadness and disgust etc.

feel for you again

I have not let my birds out of their coop today because of the cold and they have enough room in their bigger coop. The wind is brutal..........yet when there is no wind it does not seem that bad to me............at least for the brief amount of time I am outdoors.

I did something that I hope did not make things worse..............I wanted to add more bedding...........but realized there was no pine bedding in my closet...............so I actually raked up some leaves and wood chips from under a wheel barrow I had overturned..............yup raking in winter chill................and then shovelled that into the coop.

I just hope the frosted edges etc...........dont melt a bit inside the coop and then become areas of dampness and refreeze etc..............on their feet!

i want to maintain a dry indoor floor and all over actually....................I am thinking due to the coldness............it will not likely melt ----even in the coop as my coop is not heated or insulated.................

what do you all think.

tonite I am going to the store to pick up some bedding and other stuff.............and will add more on top...........hope I didnt cause a problem where there was none!

Guess what! My girls from my very first broody hatch back in September (Cookie and Cloud's crew) are starting to squat! Shouldn't be long now. I'm rather excited to see what color their eggs are. Pebbles, and Bella area SLW/BCM crosses, Honey, Cuddles, and Penny are all olive eggers, and Lucky is a Marans/Brahma cross :) my girls are getting so big! Their brothers are also getting very big, almost at processing size.

Sounds like dog. Most preds. will kill and run to stash.Dogs tend to kill as long as prey is there.IF it is a dog get plenty of pics and turn it over to the dog warden in Lanc co.He will track them down and make them pay damages.
About 15yrs ago neighbors had same problem. When I talked to Dog warden I mentioned shooting. At that time he told me I had every right under the law.The laws might have changed since but I would still call.Once they get the taste they will be back!

be extra careful folks, lock up on time, do what you have to the wildlife is hungry and food supply is scarce...I will not go into detail but I have taken a hard hit over the last few days, hard enough that for many of you would mean the end of chickens..

my camera's will not work in this cold, cannot keep batteries charged,,but anyone with wildlife knowledge who might be able to help figure out what I am up against, send pm and I will give the details..

So sorry for your loss, wish I could help. :hugs

Are quail hard to hatch or house? Apparently, someone that my husband works with is giving is some quail eggs and hubby wants me to hatch some of them (imagine that!)

He's really come around! Funny how that happens!

Wing:

So sorry to hear....I've had a single loses to three different predators...only the hawk came back for seconds and I chased him/her off....it take a large animal to jump cattle fences...if its not a large dog, its a critter that might be big enough to challenge you....I can certainly offer you some fertile eggs if you have any interest in my barnyard mixes...I'm sure a couple of other folk would pitch in too...PM me if I can help....
