Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

Sorry @speney and @duckies1230 , unfortunately Lehigh Valley is to far for me to drive especially since we only have 1 vehicle that might be able to take that kind of drive and someone else in my family uses it to drive to work and will definitely be using it that weekend. :(

@duckies1230 I'm glad to hear you were able to find a mate for your drake and I wish you luck with your baby. :)

@speney I wish you luck in your search for more ducks. You have the opposite problem that we have, too many eggs and no one who wants to buy them. Most asked question we get asked, "You can eat duck eggs? Is it safe?" lol. :)

If anyone else wants to buy her or is willing to play chicken train, let me know. We would really like her to go to a pet home as she's really sweet.

It's ok I understand they funny thing is I don't have enough for my family and people are constantly asking to buy duck eggs from me I just don't have the duck eggs to do it it would be nice for an extra income to help with the feed. I have plenty of room for them it's just so hard to come by ducks that are laying or close to laying.

One of these is the mother of your RB pullet! For scale, the blue feeder is a standard 5 gallon bucket. I was going to say "exactly the same size as a Rhode Island Red", but that might not be a useful comparison if you've never raised RIR's. I keep being impressed by these. I have 2 young pullets in a tractor with a bunch of CCL's and I caught one to move her. It was easy to handle her, she seemed fine with being picked up, even though I never handle her except to move her. I can tell you those CCL pullets with her would NOT be fine with the same treatment. She sat quietly in my hand as I carried her to her new pen. Once there, the existing birds started chasing and harassing her. It took about 10 minutes for me to get her back out from the corner where she was hiding. She was not happy and immediately bit my arm and held on like a snapping turtle. I put her back where she came from and still had to pry her beak off my arm. I figured I deserved that. They are extremely calm birds, but also very assertive and will let you know if you cross the line with them (rather than just fleeing hysterically like most of my pullets). Next year I hope to try a Rhodebar/Bielefelder hybrid. I hope to improve their productivity even more with some "hybrid vigor", but still keep the autosexing. If it works like I hope, these could be perfect for backyard flocks as the heavy producers, with a Welsummer and/or Legbar thrown in for unusual egg colors and a more "predator alertness". That cochin sure looks like a pullet to me. I seem to recall cochin roos showing a much larger comb at a small size.
Thank you! I think they both may be pullets then, mouth one is bigger than the other. They are so Awesome! Everyone loves their little "boots"!
Now if only we could schedule a broody for that date!! I just set a black broody last week!

What? They can't check their calendars and adjust the hormones accordingly?

I'm still alive... school is crazy time consuming. Highschool is hard. If any of you have a highschooler, go give them an extra hug because chances are school was rough today and their brain hurts. If they take honors classes, give them an extra long hug... chances are they need it.

School isn't really hard necessarily, it's just draining... I feel like the life has been sucked out of me by the end of the day.

I'm really worried about this duck, I don't want it used for meat! :hit. Is there anything I can do to help to get her where she needs to go?!?!!!

but at the end of the day you have to feel better because its one less day to go! Your doing great, I will keep that in mind with HarmonyAnn and Lucas as they are both in the gifted classes so far! time will tell if they slack when they are older, but thats what my foot is for right? muwahhahhaa

My Rhodebar laid her first egg today! A true fart egg. It was so teeny! @dheltzel , how big do the Rhodebars get? Just curious, she's still pretty small.

does anyone have a pic of a full grown Rhodebar?

Oh, and here is another pic of one of the bantam Cochins chicks. Roo or pullet anyone?

Ann:

One of my POL OE, laid her first yesterday...(right in the middle of the run)...I watched he run up and down the hill going to each coop and setting for a while in each....its great when your young'in get in the game......

I think you should start boasting about your breeding program to breed broodies.....AKA, you buy a couple of my girls and you'll never need to plug the bater in again!!!!!!

Thank you for your concern. Honestly if I can't find her a pet home by mid October I'll probably just keep her here over the winter. It's not like she eats a lot and I don't think I'll have the heart to follow through with selling her for meat. (Probably why I've been dragging my feet on placing a classifieds ad) I just know I can't sell as a layer cause of her eggs and it's hard to find people willing to buy ducks for pets. And you never know what people will do after they purchase them, as is their right.

I would be fine with keeping her as a pet. It's just no one buys our duck eggs so right now they're costing a lot of time, effort, and feed and not bringing anything in. We also decided to make a commitment by buying our meat in advance for the year in the form of broiler chickens and turkeys, plus other family drama that sets us back further than expected. Oh well, it is what it is. Hopefully we'll be able to sell our extra male guineas, cause then she would be no problem.

Thanks @emorems0 for offering up the chicken train and good luck with your travels.
