Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

We got 7 inches overnight. There was nothing here last night when I closed up the coops :/

7" or 8" here on the ridge also, I worked yesterday and the snow started late in the evening. We ended up having to take a heart patient to Pittsburgh overnight and the trip took 6.5 hrs instead of 4.5 thanks to the storm building up and Penn Dot not getting ahead of it. Multiple tractor trailers got stuck which made it a real mess. Guess we can be glad that it hit our area overnight though, you folks east of us were getting dumped on just in time for rush hour. :th

Only about 2 inches here. Very wet, the snowblower was useless, but at least we know it starts up ok. Shoveled enough that the driveway will be dry by evening, when it is supposed to get really cold.

Anyone in this area want any chicks from Sandhill? I am getting ready to place another order and can slot in a few more if anyone wants something.

Okay thanks. She's not very happy with the one on her right now. We'll have more hens this summer so I'm hoping that will help too.

She'll get used to it. I make my own and so far haven't had any issues with the girls not accepting their saddles. honestly, they seem to enjoy them! Maybe they think they look pretty :)

I may need one of those suckers soon. Looks like my one Cali Grey is a favorite with Rusty...

Lookit these sun bathing beauties...oblivious to what is coming.

Smart goats! Enjoying it while it lasts!

Thank you!

I have only used an incubator a couple of times when I had too many eggs for a broody, and only for a few days till we had another broody each time, but our borrowed one was touchy for temp. To minimize fluctuations we placed about 6-10 ceramic eggs in it along with the real eggs. It took them a day to warm up to temp but they then stayed warm and the fluctuations seemed to reduce. I also taped the temperature probe to one to get a good read on for temp right at egg level. We never needed to keep it going till hatch, but development was good each time. Don't know if we were just lucky or if our 'heat holders' actually helped.

The amount of Broody's at your house is quite perplexing... I'm thinking if I'm ever at your house, I'm staying away from the water.

Haha! It's is perplexing... :p

Yikes! Tarp didn't last 2 hours? I'm worried about the frozen gates and latches that will be coming after the deep freeze hits. I'm contemplating using bailing twine to close some coops instead of the hardware. Anyone else have ideas?

We did quite a bit of tarping yesterday as well. Got a pic of my youngest up on top of the main run tying tarps. She's a good kid (I get to hold the ladder, It's tough getting old).

It's hard to believe how stinking cold it is already when I was in a tank top and getting sunburned yesterday...

What a great helper she is! I want to invest in some of that clear roofing panel for next year. Time to save some money...

So tempting, but I know I will have chicks already in a couple weeks. I already have a home for the chicken chicks, but the poults I will grow out and see if I can sell them later in the spring probably. I will want some banty Cochins in the future though, but I think you said you know of a source for them too. Fertile eggs would work too, now that I have access to an incubator.

Sent you a PM about the cochins and what colors I can get.

I can get BBS LF cochins from either Sandhill or a local source that would be available sooner. I wouldn't count on any of those being top show birds. I can ask about getting some eggs of show stock if you want.

Also Privett has a bunch of different colors of LF Cochins, including barred, gold and silver laced. If you got barred and blacks, you could make black sexlink cochins to sell sexed pullet chicks.

Ducks were running around the yard yesterday because all of the snow melting and they had too many puddles to choose from. Today they won't even come out to say hi.... Stupid snow.
