Come to my house LOL. The remaining birds all got scared eggless and are now laying more than they did before when I had twice as many layers.

Thanks just have a hubby who keeps asking when are these chickens gonna start laying eggs?? He wants them to start working for their keep and my 3 yr old dd goes out everyday hoping for eggs and always comes back in disappointed but she wants them for another reason... She wants babies hahahha silly little girl thinks as soon as their are eggs they will have babies right away!

Heck I even had two start laying that weren't laying before LOL. Granted now they are freaked by even the smallest dog. Getting 8/day and have a pullet ready to turn.

A couple of my new fuzzies that hatched yesterday. 4 in total hatched after going thru 13 hrs of no power during the hurricane in which I only managed to keep the temp around 91.

These are LF Langshans.

look how cute!!!!! LOVE THEM!!!

Thanks for the info Sally. I got some local eggs from a friend so I am going to throw them in the bator. If they hatch, then I will know that its the shipping and not me. I have an egg turner, so I don't have to handle the eggs. We will see what happens...

AWESOME!!!! Chicky Dee you need to come in the incubating thread too!!! u know where the info is from the thread in the hatching 101 article, but come say hello and share with us, there is a young girl on there too that could use some mothering from us all LOL
she recieved the incubater from silver and I also sent her a new hygro and thermometer digital and some standard incubator thermometers, temp is sooooo important to calibrate!

I am glad the good hatching vibes are going around. Tomorrow I have 7 Mottled Bantam Cochins to hatch. They are all wiggling and I could hear some peeping. They were shipped to me before the hurricane. I had to put them in as soon as possible. I wanted them to have a good start. The power was out for 22 hours. They all made it! Thank goodness. There was 14 in the beginning. One was smashed upon arrival. 5 were clear at day 4. One died around day 7. So that leaves me with 7. I am hoping to get a mix of black, blue, and splash mottled!
OMG MOTTLED???? awwwww too bad they are bantam!!! \

THIS IS gonna END up being an INCUBATING THREAD !!! LMAO!!!

so, as it turns out I DO have a Bantam buff brahma too! I am SO excited!!! Will have eggs/babies in the spring!

My oldest turns 9 in Feb and then he can join 4H. We are in the process of trying to decide which breed he is going to work with. He (like his mama) loves them all! He was sold on the brahma, but we lost his favorite roo over the summer and now he doesn't seem to want to mess with them much :(
Mama do u hatch in a bator? Perhaps doing a round with him will get him over his loss of Roo???

Quote: Mine start ed when ? last week??

We did the......

added light into the coop, now we have 14 hrs of daylight for them, when I open them out into run, I have 4 eggs already, great for a fresh breakfast, and then we are up to 3 later on..... still waiting for the others, but well worth the wait

ALSO when chad was here he suggested adding bigger/higher "lips/ledges" to the fronts of the nest boxes

thats the only thing I changed besides not hanging out as much with them lately : ( and I DID stop spoiling them with snacks and oatmeal, a friend said they may be too busy thinking about us and when we will come and treat them! who knows!!!
