After reading your opinions on TSC coops I've been looking into Woods coops. I don't quite understand the concept of open air but it sounds very healthy, sturdy, and quite critter proof. Since my husband has to build it and is new to its concept as well, I bought Woods book on Amazon. It explains everything in very understandable language. He has a sample chapter you can download for free before actually committing to buying the book. Also, there are various plans and designs where you can modify to your particular needs.
Can't wait to get started now.
My main coop has some elements of the Woods-type coops, but extensive modifications, some of which negate the bad weather capabilities, at least in part, so I find myself protecting the open front when blizzards are coming.

Did you check the forum on illness? She looks weak, obvious respiratory. I don't use Tylan 200, I use the Tylan 50.

This was when it was "tucked in" for the night, I grabbed it to give it medicine and let it snooze a bit afterwards.

I got the Tylan200 out of desperation because TSC was out of Tylan50 and wouldn't be getting more until later in the week.

It is still doing the gasping here and there. But otherwise eating/drinking/pooping/toodling normally.

I did thoroughly check the forum, with mixed results (some grim, some not).

Today's day 7.

Well the babies never came. Don't even know if a quiet box will show up Monday. Kinda hate people right now. I've called everyone from here to Pittsburgh. I don't think they ever left Texas and I hope who ever heard them sitting in some corner or truck feels at least a little guilty. I'm not holding out much hope for any survivers.

I hope you never get the box at this point. You called everyone, and the box might still be in Texas? How does that even happen? I would be furious, that is no way to treat live animals! If I had heard chicks cheeping in a box in my truck and there was a delay, I would have taken the chicks home to take care of them until they were able to make it to you! Ugh

I was at TSC on Peach today, they had some bantams, white laced red cornish, and ameraucanas. They had barred rock last week when we were there but sold fast, so maybe you can call to see if they will be getting in any more? That way you can avoid having those shipped, and you can try your ducks and other chicks when the weather is warmer?

I'm sorry you had such a bad experience with this.

We had a great day out at the Gray's Small Animal Auction, Special Spring Saturday Event yesterday. It's at the Roots Market in Manheim that's regularly every Tuesday.

They accept animals from 6am and the auctions are scheduled to start at 930am but actually started at 10. I think because there were so many animals.

There was also a side auction for farm equipment and auctions for food in another building.

We took along one of the chicks we hatched on New Year that turned out to be a cockerel. He is an Araucana so we were not worried about someone buying him for meat. They don't have any meat on them. Here's a video of how the day went:
