Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

I raised my turkeys with the intention of breeding them for food, and because @dheltzel so highly recommended them as being so friendly and social. I don’t know that I could butcher my own, I like them so much. I plan instead now to breed them and sell their poults. I will keep the ones I have for comic relief. They are so funny, but also naughty. I would recommend that you not have them if you only have a small piece of land, as I had previously. We had a small .23 acre lot on the suburbs. I was barely able to keep chickens there.
I think you will do well hatching and selling poults. It's not a way to get rich, seeing as how much the breeders eat for the number of eggs they lay, but you can pay the feed bill and you'd have some for pets anyway. You will need to separate the breeds, they cross freely, and you will probably be the only person in a wide area selling Midget White poults if you can produce pure ones. I miss those Midget Whites, they are awesome pets.

I have my new chicks in the living room next to a window. They are loving the sunlight coming in. I’m using the Heating Pad instead of a heat lamp and they really enjoy that. Can’t wait to get more

That’s what I’m hoping for, just something to help with feed costs. I am going to try to let my broody hatch them out too, saving me some frustration. I already have a frame for a separate broody house, so I can build a separate coop and run for her.

I won’t have any pure breeds, as I had to rehome that big Tom. He was a clumsy mater and injured two of the girls badly. I gave him to gentleman to butcher, but the guy liked him so much, I believe he still has him.

My Royal Palm Tom is doing a good job fertilizing them, and is very good too. He does try to attack the dog occasionally. I found out today, that it is the two midget white girls that are laying.

Looks great! The heating pad is the best idea! They seem so calm and quiet with it too.

What brand of heat pad doesn't have an auto shut off? I need to get one for my bedroom brooder. The heat lamp really bugs hubby. I can sleep through anything lol

Mine is a Sunbeam from Walmart as well, but mine has a slider switch, instead on push buttons. It stays on constantly too.

Beautiful as always! Glad to see you pop in. Hope you are doing well with all that is on your plate. :hugs

Anyone in PA know where I can get two Black Marans. I want them to be almost laying. I'm a very impatient person when it comes to waiting for eggs. Maybe someday I'll try. My goal right now is to add two Black Marans, i'll even consider a Black and a Grey one. Thanks for any help!

Sorry, I don't even know anyone with Marans chicks for sale. I got rid of mine years ago because the strain I had were such poor layers (lucky to average 1 egg per hen per week in the spring). I have Welbars and Partridge Penedesencas for dark brown eggs now, they lay circles around those Black Copper Marans and the eggs are just as dark.
