Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

She was back on the nest tonight, when I checked them at dusk.

Just finished setting 360 eggs in the incubators. Also candled several hundred eggs. The 22 Aussie Spotted ducks are now down to 7 that have ducklings developing. I'm thinking the 17 eggs they laid were the infertile ones and they are all fertile now. :fl

Awesome! Best of luck with them. Did you enjoy your short rest from incubators and chicks?

Hope everyone stayed safe and warm tonight. We got lots of snow today with this storm. I really wasn’t expecting it to lay because we had had so much rain, and the ground was pretty warm.

The turkeys still wandered around, looking less than their best after a morning of drenching rain.

Thankfully, this seems to be the only tree that fell near the house. It’s maybe a 15-20’ section of the top of a pine tree. Thank goodness we have a chainsaw.

Upon closing the coop tonight, one of my Biele girls was outside, and her comb looked shiny. She was also soaked. Someone must have gotten her good, her comb was dripping with blood and it was running into her nostrils, making her breathe through her mouth. Poor thing. I brought her into a cage in the garage so she could dry off and clot in peace. Hopefully it’s nothing more severe. Always an adventure with having outdoor animals!

Poor girl! I hope she has a quick recovery. Great news on having a 'productive' turkey too. Doesn't look too snow covered there, and about the same here. It was just the terrible blustery winds!

Yeah, I woke up here today without power & still without. I was looking forward to finishing up the last of the taxes, I was able to finish everyone's but 1. *sigh* No trees down here, at my home, but a few came down at the estate I do work at. I just got done with all the felling & chipping 2 wks ago. Lol. Annnnnd the main sewer line busted at the estate, so been clearing out brush & digging for that.

There's a chick class I want to attend tmrw at Primex Garden Center, where I'm waiting for my chicks to arrive. I won't attend if I can't shower 1st!! Please power, come on. I know the things in the refrigerators will be OK, as they weren't opened at all & I have plenty of ice jugs in there as common practice. Hope everyone else made out alright too!

**WANTED heritage Narragansett Tom turkey**
— We lost the 2 toms in our flock this winter and are searching for one or two 1+ yr old toms for breeding our hens. We are in Butler (near Pittsburgh).

We have heritage Narragansett (hens only, ~ 2 yrs old) and some Narragansett/Bourbon Red mixes (toms and hens, which are beautiful, ~ 1 yr old) that we could trade, or else let us know how much you want for your toms.

We are looking to get rid of our mixes, and go back to the pure heritage Narragansett.

Those of you who are now raising turkeys - are these for eggs, meat, or just fun?

The only egg I got today, March 2, very fitting, was the green one!

Thinking about the breeds I'd like when Niko goes broody, Silver or Lav Ameraucana, Lav Orp, CCL are the 3 I'm leaning towards. She goes broody the end of April, it seems. Any of you likely to have eggs for sale then?

For me, raising turkeys stated as a meat thing, then it became a fun thing. I couldn't imagine not having them around here any more! Not only are they beautiful but their personalities are just incredible. ...feathered dogs lol

As far as hatching eggs, I should have lavender ameraucanas and CCL. @dheltzel I'm sure will have both colors of ameraucanas and CCL available.

Starla finally laid an egg. :th I’ve never had a pullet wait until spring before.

Are these the ones I brought to you, via the chicken train?

My old Bielefelder chicken that was bleeding last night has to go. She must be sick, which is why they were picking on her. She only wanted to drink a lot this morning, even with being offered mealworms. She has been picked on for a while, but I thought maybe it was just the turkeys. Now I’m not so sure. I hate when I know I have to euthanize.
