@fisherlady , your ladies always follow that saying, it takes a village to raise a child (or chick in this case lol).

I have an egg eater. I've known it for quite some time now but she's making sure that I get no eggs from my English Orpington/blrw pen now. Normally I wouldn't tolerate it but I love this girl so much. She's a rotten, spoiled, cuddly brat..... so I bought some roll away nest boxes lol. I hope the girls like and use them. It's going to be a little bit of tight quarters though seeing as how these girls are massive! I'm just hoping they don't go lay in the corner instead. We'll see how it goes. Chewy.com had a 3 section galvanized steel set for sale so I thought I'd give them a try.
I hope the new boxes do the trick!

4 goslings from 5 fertile eggs (still hoping for that last one), and looks like at least 3 are females. That is a major success in my book. These are getting shipped to Iowa tomorrow to join the preservation group there.
Also hatched 5 of 7 fertile muscovy eggs, those are quite tricky to incubate, but the years of tuning and testing the incubators seems to be paying off.

Did you try to leave fake eggs for her? I haven't had any egg eater yet, except Sunny the pokie may eat her shellless eggs. She started to lay shellless eggs during this winter, and those eggs disappeared recently even after I saw she was laying. I don't know how to fix this problem. She has enough calcium and used to lay eggs with extra thick shells. I just worry about that she will not survive too long and she is my son's favorite. :(

I have left fake eggs and she knows she just has to find which ones are real. She's a smart little brat! I've been precariously balancing the fake eggs in the new roll away boxes to try to tempt the girls to just them. So far no luck but they keep knocking the fake ones down in to the collection bins.

Hopefully Sunny will get back in the routine of laying normal eggs. Maybe her shell gland just needs a rest to recharge...

I had a potential fox attack and lost two chickens! :hitMy legbar was killed and blue ameraucana was taken through under the fence. I usually stay with them when free range, but I went in kitchen to get some lettuce for their treats. Just a couple minutes, I came back and found a dead body and feathers everywhere. Clearly, my blue ameraucana was dragged under the fence to the woods.:he I couldn’t find her. My splash marans has big holes in her back, but she acted ok. I cleaned her, put some animal bleeding stop powder, and sprayed wound treatment. Anything else can I do?

I definitely will need some chicks from Dennis this year. My son is still crying and locked himself in his room. It’s all my false not watching the chickens. :he They will not free range anymore.

I'm so sorry @TillyPeeps that is horrible to go through. Please don't blame yourself, predators always find a way. :hugs

It sounds like you have provided the right first aid, just watch for signs of decline and if noted then move the bird into a quiet, warm, low light and draft free location for a while. You may want to boost them with a good quality treat also.

Aww, I am so sorry :( It’s so hard to lose them, especially when they're pets and so well loved.

Thanks a lot! She is in a cage in my basement now. I’m making hard boiled eggs for her now.
