So Harlow the opal legbar has passed. My olive egger Skinner, who is half legbar, has pendulous crop and I am not sure how long I will have her. I seem really unlucky with legbars, whereas the Americaunas and Marans do fine for me. Maybe my setup, with it's free range accomodations, isn't ideal for legbars?
Do you ferment your feed? If not, try it. I never had crop issue since I started fermenting their feed, although I cannot do it during winter.

I have some, wish I knew when you last visited.

Thank you Dennis. She didn't appear to be ill at the time. I got some liquid Corid today--what is the correct dose for one isolated hen?

At least she is eating a little. I lost my heritage barred rock while I was in MIchigan (chicken sitter clueless) and came home to an older English orpinton with diarrhea who didn't last a day. Then my white rock was gaping and not eating. I gave her ivermectin and antibiotics and lost her --I wasn't surprised at all--she wasn't eating or drinkin any thing. Forth sick chicken looked wonderful--until I picked her up and found she weighed NOTHING and her crop is empy. Third day in isolation and diarrhea started.

This is copied from my notes:
  • The dosing is as follows, mixed in water:
    • *The preventative dose (.006%) for Corid 20% Soluble Powder is 1/3 teaspoon/gallon.
    • *The preventative dose (.006%) for Corid Liquid (9.6% Solution) is 1/2 teaspoon/gallon.
    • *The moderate outbreak dose (.012%) for Corid 20% Soluble Powder is 3/4 teaspoon/gallon.
    • *The moderate outbreak dose (.012%) for Corid Liquid (9.6% Solution) is 1 teaspoon/gallon.
    • *The severe outbreak dose (.024%) for Corid 20% Soluble Powder is 1.5 teaspoons/gallon.
    • *The severe outbreak dose (.024%) for Corid Liquid (9.6% Solution) is 2 teaspoon/gallon.

Thank you! I have had horrible luck with sick chickens--and of course after bringing them in and babying them , I end up sooo attached!

Is anyone in the chester/berks area interested in chicks? I had a staggered hatch and now have five chicks that need homes. They're from a week to a couple of days old, Easter egger and olive egger mixes.
