Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

Wow. You guys were chatty while I was gone. I have a hodgepodge in the bator now. We shall see what comes of them. OEs, green eggs, marans and God only knows what else. And a few of my own.

I do dry hatches only. Its has the best hatch rates for me. I have a humidity pump that I turn on at day 18. I also let them "cool" for two hours a day. I have had much better hatch rates, 90%+ with my own eggs. Not the same with shipped ones. A BIG factor in hatching is the hen's diet! Remember feeds like Layena are for making eggs to eat. It does not mean you will get good hatchability.
Hi Heather,,,, what do you feed your birds to get better hatches,,, do you add something or eliminate something???

,,,, wish I could free range more to give them a more natural diet,,, just not possible at the moment.

there certainly are quite a few of you here that like "the" punishment, haha, I know there is alot more to it than just that though, it has got to be awesome to watch them catch and know You were the one that helped make that possible..

Definitely has a rewarding feeling,,, also feel it necessary for the Marans since they are so difficult to come by,,,, not readily available around this area. When you have eggs shipped, you want to get as many out of them as you can,, bad enough the hatch rate is much lower to begin with, and it's nice to get the best possible selection from what you receive, no doubt there will be the usual percentage of Roos, and it's nice to get a few pullets to choose from, they aren't always all "keepers". They're nice birds, and I would hate to lose the better ones from the bunch.

NIght night

Sometime I will take the time to clean up my hatching notes thrown in that article,
but TOMORROW I am starting a article on STEP BY STEP Assisted hatching....

I have so many people asking for help and go over the same stuff, so I think it would benefit alot of people.... I just wish I could have someone take pictures whilst I work, because you know how fast you have to work, and I dont want to mess around and kill a chick for a picture.... hmmmmm but maybe i could save alot more chicks helping.... IDK but will let you have a look and help me edit if you can help??? But first I need to move and regroup lol!
A step by step would be cool,,, a great help for many,,, I'd love to see how you do yours, and how it may differ from how I do it.

I do mine under a desk light to help them stay warm during the assist,,, sometimes it takes quite a bit of time to make progress.
