Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

Those hens are so warm you cant go in there and touch them without them squatting and haunching to get into ramming position. He'd have to be half blind and geographically challenged not to be able to do it. Heck maybe he needs a GPS, a flight controller and neons on the girl's vents :lau

Or they're in love with you....Now go get the deed done!

Get some Safeguard for goats . 1 3mL syringe and a plastic cup. Gather 1 syringe full of the Safeguard and squirt it into the plastic cup. Get 3 syringe fils of water and squirt them into the plastic cup. Stir together well to make sure they are mixed. Bantams get .5 mL and standards get 1 mL directly into their mouth. Only need to do this once every 3 months.

What is the egg withholding?

OMG!! My fiancee just cracked me up! He asked me how many eggs we have...I told him less than 18. He says, "and I just brought in 4". I replied, "Yes, and you just at them". He made a face and said ewww...those just came out of the chickens ..... I asked him where he thought they all come from!!! He seems to think it's better if they "mellow" for a few days in the fridge...silly silly man!

Happy belated holidays everyone. Thanks for 27 pages of awesome stories and pictures, I read, each and every word! I stared, admired and laughed at every photo. May each and every one of you have have a happy new year.

about the fan... my only thought would be is that either the noise or vibration of the fan is somehow affecting the egg? If there is not a physical change in either the temp or humidity of the incubator then noise/vibration is the only other thing I would think could be different with a fan blowing. If it really seems to be a problem the vibration may be reduces with the addition of padded tape between the fan frame and the incubator wall. To reduce noise would require some way of seperating the fan from the incubator physically and create a 'tunnel' between the two for the air to travel in.
I think the increased air flow is drying them all out faster forcing a faster hatch.... the fan is pretty quiet as apposed to my styro bator fan! I am thinking I will be adding more vent holes and perhaps three the size of a cork so I can easily open close as need and then shut down the fan during lockdown

Sorry to hear about the one pipping the small end... not giving up hope yet.

Sally, when it is noticed that a chick has pipped the 'wrong' end... can you tip the egg so the 'skinny' end is up at that point to reduce the fluid pressures around the beak area? since they aren't pipped through the existing air sac anyway I would think it would be better to have the fluid away from their airway? Is there a guideline for assist here? Drying the beak even while the little one is still in the shell to remove fluids from the nostrils and allow clear air exchange? (maybe using an eyedropper like a bulb syringe to suck out aspirated fluids?)
She is gone and I think one other stopped pipping since last eve. i dont want to open the bator so we will see later on today. cute little beakage!

Quote: No pics... DH is running to Redners this afternoon.... kids presents sucked the batteries, and there is a stack waiting for batteries. Mom always gets them stuff that need batteries and I thought I had it covered this year but was still out! I was trying to take a video and the stupid thing died.... I wanted to show everyone that a baby ducks sounds pretty much like a peeper chirping whilst its pipping... they still arent out, I hope I didnt hurt them opening the bator for that one that pipped wrong... uggggg I need to think better, but I get so worried.... I think we are down to three but I will check them for sure at lunch, does it normally take longer for ducks to pip? they sure are slow at it. Its game time with the kids.... BUT NOT FOR LONG... why do they EVERYTIME gotta fight playing board games and then wonder why we dont want to play.
