Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

B/B/S would be great to start with. I found GL, which I love, and want, but I don't want a dozen of them. At least with B/B/S there's a variety. I really do like the blue in Cochin's. If I'm remembering right, the blue almost looks laced? I was really surprised that there's not much on E Bay right now. Plenty of Bantam, but I really want the LF. I've decided to stick with Seramas for the bantam coop's. I'd really appreciate your guy's info. Thanks a bunch.

If e-bay is running low, it's because Chad bought em all out.

Sally, excellent info on the Seramas -you really do your homework!

Rosie, Peeps?! Hee hee.

Penta! Great coop set up! I also use the bungees and can see right away if the waterer has been spilled out (hangs way high).

Heather, what an awesome surprise! This should inspire some patience from me, chicks hatching on day 24! Love your little's response that you already have your own roosters!

I walked into the book store. It hurt.
I found the chicken books while DH was looking for his books. The first (and only) one I picked up had me worried. The first thing the author wrote was about Cornelius, the Corn Flakes rooster. He was taking a stab as to what he thought he was, but hadn't bothered to find out for sure before guessing. That was weird to me. Then he says that chicks start with temps of 85-90* (no info on body language or peeping being indicators of being too cold or hot) the first week, are fully feathered by 10 days, and that a full grown chicken will die at those temperatures. I put the book down.
We are not writing a book on this site. We are helping each other to the best of our abilities. I will not take what one person says as law. Some things vary by owner (light during the winter vs. no light. Heat vs. no heat). I don't know how much I agree with this author. I just know that the first three things I saw were things I found hard to swallow.
My point, aside from venting, is that we always need to research our questions. I still don't have answers to some things, so I er on the side of caution.

Thank You!!
OK I am steeling your bungee cord idea!! This weekend I want to pick up those hanging feeders and waterers!! That is awesome!!!
I love the bungee idea, (which I used in the brooders) because they hang low and it's easier to see what needs to be filled because they hang high if empty. LOL!

What kind of bird are those dark red eggs from?

I'm not sure which eggs you r asking about...perhaps those beauties that Mama2my4 has put into lockdown? But Marans and Wellsummers lay beautiful dark eggs. Wellsummers are supposed to lay more of a Terracotta color, and Marans more of a Dark brown egg (chocolate), although I've seen some very reddish brown Marans.
