Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

Auctions are more for pet and production or cages and equipment, if you really want to scrub and bleach the sin out of everything. I used to buy my eating eggs there too. Just can't beat a $0.25 dozen of eggs if you don't have any layers (heck, even if you do!) For me, I'll pick up scovies at some point in time, and a pekin drake, but just about everything else is off limits until I get into rabbits. My cornish cross, my BBW turkeys and my pekins all came from auction (pekins were eggs). They were all hatchery birds and in the case of pekins, hatchery quality. But when you're just starting a self-sustainable flock for your dinner table, you don't really care if the eyes are the wrong color, the beaks are a smidge skewed or whatever.

As for bantam pets? Try OEGB or serama as well. LOVE those little birds, but if you free-range, watch for hawks and don't step on them. Also watch for birds flying to get on your shoulder! They're like puppy dogs, lol.

25 cents? when was the last time you went to buy eggs? last week they went for over three dollars a dozen and SOLD, person took all of them

Well, I don't know about your creepy CL meeting, but I've had one of my own! Lesson learned!!

Mine was in an indoor storage place in harrisburg. Instead of having the two free bird cages in the brightly lit office, he made me walk back through the dark corridor & get them from an empty storage shed. I had my finger on my phone to dial Sally if anything happened!
Hopefully, you didn't go to the same place!

Haha! I'm not real short, but my house and the old house were both built for very tall people. I can't touch 2/3rds of the cabinets in my kitchen without crawling on the counters, lol. Everyone is saying that they're buying me stools so they don't get a call to come take me to the ER, lol.
They all say I'm 7' tall with razor sharp teeth and built like a bulldozer or something along those lines. It's all a perspective thing really.

Question for everyone.... I think I've finally convinced DH to build me another coop so I can get some bantams! I would like a nice variety, but am wondering where to get them? I need a frizzle... Top on my list, would love some silkies and who knows what else? Anyone have several kinds that they'll be hatching/selling? Could probably go to TSC or order from hatchery.... Thought about going to an auction ... Any advice? Thanks in advance!!

Where are you located. I can send you a young pair of Seramas A.S.A.P.

The guy I talked to on the phone knew about chickens, I talked to him for a while. Said he wanted them for his little brother who was in 4-H. He showed up at the very public meeting spot we arranged. Reminded me of those guys in Deliverance immediately (enough said?). The boy in the other seat wouldn't look up from his phone, which I thought odd, because they were supposed to be his birds for 4-H. I finally asked if they were gonna be his, he didn't have a clue as to what I was talking about, and then said, "oh yeah, yeah" and went back to his phone. The guy handed me crumpled up bills and a pile of Quarters, and I let him take the birds. Please don't ask why I let him, I can't answer that question, I wish I hadn't. I wanted to throw up, and cried the whole way home. It really haunted me for a long time. I am soo.. careful now.
