so sorrySomething got my only EE hen today! 3 beers deep, and more on the way! I am sooo...ticked off! I've had a pair of Bald Eagles soaring over the property for 2 days now, and can't even blame them. I'm thinking fox?? DH found her in a thicket on the property, chewed on one side, and no head to be found. There are no emoticons for the way I feel right now. Sorry, had to vent! Only plus, 2 days before setting eggs for the Easter Hatch she laid me 2 pretty blue eggs that I set, and are developing, but this sucks. I've lost a chicken to a hawk before, but this is the first one I really loved. Time for another beer. Thanks for listening to me all.![]()

If it is a BR... do you have any pics from the side of the head/profile? And pics of it beside any other BR siblings in the brooder? It looks kinda dark feathered, and hard to judge the comb from the angle of the pic. Our BR pullet is darker than the 3 roos and the comb is smaller, but helps if you have pics showing them together so they can be compared.
I forget where you are lclark? The BR would end up being a big bird if you want to raise him out a few months for meat.

You most likely aren't doing anything wrong... if you have immune issues and are on any steroid treatments for them then your system is basically a 'sitting duck' for any germs that happen along. If you are prone to lung infections and are around folks who are sick then I would also suggest wearing a face mask when in close proximity to anyone who is sick. It isn't a perfect fix, but may reduce the droplet infections you are exposed to. Also make sure you keep up with vitamin supplements to keep your system as hardy as you can.I have been sick as a dog today, nausia, cough and breathing issues again, I need to be careful with my immune issues and having sick kiddos! Luke is much improved and now I have to watch kids while I am sick, its THE WORST! I cant call off! I wash my hands all the time, Wipe everything down, what am I doing wrong!!!
Hello!! Welcome from Indiana County!!Dknt forget me on that list![]()

Big pieces? Small pieces? It's really cool. We were gonna use it for projects at school but that fell through so I have ALOT in my driveway out back. My wife loves it (extreme sarcasm)
Ummmm I was the drunk...um...not drunk....deeply seasoned individual that had to be carried...um I mean escourted by three ladies to a car which I drove there and did not drive home.Okay, we know Chads plans for tomorrow. Who else is Irish, or just planning on being rowdy tomorrow????Blarney? Hey Chad, will you be the drunk guy on the morning news broadcasting from a bar at 7a.m. in a kilt?![]()
Yeah I'm sorry about that...I have a orange juice drinking, kilt wearing, chicken whispering reputation on here.Every time I see "Chad" on here I think y'all are talking to me!!!! Haha! I wish I could go hard for St Patty's but my human flock won't allow that!!!!
They go nuts over them. I watched mine devour baby mice.Gave my chicks some meal worms this evening. I was traumatized touching the nasty things, but the girls loved them!![]()
Ahh the red hairYep, Irish here... even the red hair.... but I am working 24 hrs tomorrow. Start at 0700 till 0700 Monday morning, so no partying for me.![]()
You'll be an old hand at it in no time!! Glad they liked them... crickets are also a lot of fun, and earthworms... and about anything else that qualifies as 'creepy crawly'! LOL
Wow... didn't know there were a lot in that area. We aren't on facebook so we are out of the loop for those contacts.
I would have, but my engagements were quite full. Tell the kids next year the leprechauns are hoping to borrow santa's sleigh to get it done faster. My 9 year old just said earlier, "I hope the leprechaun brings chocolate again in the backyard for st pattys day!"
Forgot i did that last year. Rutters here I come
cement blocks, rail road ties. The cement blocks are easier to move into place. Used 2 bundles of RR ties to build a great spiral staircase outside of a customer's house.Day 1 of project build a coop from pallets is over. Sort of went as planned... But it's twice as big as I originally wanted... But I found really cool gigantic pallets and crates at tsc! Free, and perfect for building stuff with. I finished the floor today, it's huge, and have to rethink it... A bit big and heavy for the legs I had planned... Think I will have to frame it on some larger pieces for the bottom, then either on the ground, or small legs.
Any thoughts? Legs on coops or on the ground? (Well, on cement blocks at least, too wet otherwise)
Pics are coming![]()
Figure roughly 150lbs for a tie. Average 200+lbs on a switch tie. Depending on the age of the ties. And than theres that **** creosote. If you can find used railroad ties they would make great foundations/ runners for under a larger structure. Call around to any railroads that service your area, frequently they replace old ties on their lines and stack them up around their yards, free or cheap if you ask nicely.
Place them every 2 ft or so under the building. Average dimensions on RR ties is about 7x7x8ft +/- and inch or so, unless you find switch ties which are 10 ft +. It would elevate you about 6" or so off of the ground, or higher if you stack them. They are pressure treated and last for ages.
Old telephone/utility poles also are great if you know anyone who works at a utility company you can contact.

Love it! Thanks for thinking of me while toasting your drinks. I got very very lost...and I mean quite deep into Jameson and Guiness. Really deep...
4-6 weeks and the nitrogen breaks down to a level to be used to grow things. Use 6 weeks as a baseline.I want to use the chicken poo for fertilizer. Is it ok to rototill it in the garden before I plant anything or is there a special way to use it as fertilizer? I have read things about their poo being hot and I don't know what that means. Any suggestions?
And you threw caution to me to stay away LMAO! I was in no shape to be surfing.I want the campbell and i want the buckeye.....and i really should stay off ebay when drinking.......Anybody willing to do some hatching, hubby will have a fit if i get the incubators out of the closet ????
HA! See it does happen to othersumm...my drunk *** has been to ebay, so now I have eggs coming and no clue what to do with them,,,,hubby will not allow the incubator set back up,,,,so far i have 4 sets of eggs coming![]()
uuhhmmm.... I thought it was Chad with the drunken Ebay issue???? Must be contageous!
So how's that downsizing going??? LOL
Oh, wait... eggs are smaller than adult chickens, so that's just a unique way of downsizing!![]()
I like these two. Love the colorsOK anyone know about silkies?
Here is what I have in my pen
White Roo over a white hen and 2 splash hens
I got blue and Idontknowwhat chicks!
I read some and they resemble a blue partridge silkie?????
it sounds like sometimes they turn all blue and sometimes partridge, so my white roo has a partridge gene?![]()

The older one has turned alot more silver blue and he is about 2 weeks old now/

Give them a chance. I had a BR dance club out back for the longest time and thought they were roos, turned out to be a crap load of pullets.I'm in York County. It is a BR, according to where I bought it. I'm posting two pics. One is both BRs. (Jerk Chick is in front.) The other is a profile of jerk chick. It's comb actually seems to be more pronounced than any of the other chicks, but that could be because it is just bigger in general than all of the others. I have NO CLUE how to kill/clean/dress a chicken so I'm not sure if I would want to keep him for meat (if it turns out it is a "he.")

Sweetness!Oh, I am finally getting quail eggs. First two went into the bator today. Once fert is confirmed and they're laying well, I'll have those. Pekins, they're breeding, but the hens are molting, so once they get back to laying, I'll fert test them and have them available. Hopefully my turkey hen picks up again soon too.
