What is their personality like? I have 2 young kids and anything I consider must be "nice"
They are pretty calm. Mine just kinda exist LOL. I have plenty of other ducks I found I tend to not notice the cayugas.. they dont do anything special/ catch my eye too often from being bad LOL. I think they would be fine around kids... all ducks if raised around kids would have no issue with them.. The only ones I have ever bite me was my jumbo pekins... but it seems to be just mine that are little pains! Haha

when do chicks generally start to roost up higher. I have 3 levels one on the ground one at 1'6" and one at 3' , they all stay on the ground at night, but i see them playing on the other roosts during the day.
Depends on breed & temperatures. Silkies see to always nest on the floor at night snuggled together but will occasionally roost if you have a roost about 6 inches off the floor that they can just hop/step up onto. Some other breeds tend to prefer the floor as well, usually broody breeds. Some of my chicks roost as early as a week or so old, others are nearly at laying age before figuring it out. If it's cooler out they will often take longer to roost because they are warmer snuggled together in a pile.

Just pick up 4 quail at the auction tonight. 1 week old. No clue what kind.
Post pix. Maybe I can ID them.

That egg decorating looks like Polish/Slovakian psyanky. Done with egg dye and the designs are covered with wax done in layers as each dye layer is added. Beautiful , exacting work. All the grandmothers used to do it, now it's a dying art..literally.

Hey! Where did you get that pic of me????

Hey! Where did you get that pic of me????
I saw it months ago. It fits someone else here. My chicks from last year suddenly began roosting after several months. They always slept by the door. Sometimes now a few sleep under the roost. The Leghorn chicks have been roosting since two weeks with the Old English chick. The Cochin just started at four weeks. Some people just put them on the roost every night.

Question for ya: If I meet you half way between my place & yours can you distribute birds/eggs to the people on the other side of you from me if they come to you instead of you going any further

I know I had a few things you were wanting & there are several people on the other side of you wanting stuff too. I'm sure no one would object to tossing in a few bucks toward gas to have items picked up for them either.

Quote: I had to buy masks too. I sing, and DE was tearing my lungs up. Took me a while to figure it out too! I kept thinking I was getting sick, and realized it was always after dusting & cleaning the coops.

Did I mention that the eggs in the bator are doing great, figures...when they are eggs that really don;t matter.....
6 of 6 d'anver still doing good and 10 of 13 call ducks looking good....not sure about what joan or eli have at their place..
YAY!!! Let me know what you end up hatching and will have extra, if any!!
OKAY. .....Well I have some news.... My schedule will be changing and I will no longer be consumed between the times of 2:30-11:30 5 nights a week.
Good for you, Chad. Landscaping is awesome! Exhausting, but rewarding!!
do call ducks take the full 28 days or less..seems beig so small it should be less...I am thinking 25 days for calls........
I wish I was brave enough to try to hatch them myself
