OK... just wondered. I've seen folks in TSC saying how cute the CRs are. Many have no clue about them as meat birds and I wonder how many folks take them home not realizing that many never live beyond 10 or 12 weeks if they aren't managed well, since they are so prone to heart and joint problems. I think the bins at TSC should be marked with a few more details to help folks make more informed decisions. They'll be for meat. I did promise my son up to 8 of the most loving would be true pets and not be cooked at all, so far that's been the Tints. My son's kinda funny about it, I told him it would be slightly easier if we don't name the meat birds (the CRs), but he's insisted on trying to name all of them. The only ones he hasn't named (YET) are the newest Tints and NHs. Thankfully I'm a hunter and his step-father's family raise their own beef, so he understands the process and reasons. I just hope he'll be better about it than my mother, she's fine with eggs and wants them, but has told me if I make anything with chicken she doesn't want to know if it's ours or store bought.
Sounds like you have a nice flock going and your son is lucky to be exposed to well rounded animal management growing up. I honestly think it is something many kids would really benefit from.
