Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

Just got two barred rocks this weekend, both two years old (I wanted to get some big birds while my pullets are growing) and they were SO big!! One is giant and I can barely lift her, and all of my chicks are so scared of her lol, but she seems harmless/ confused as to why they run from her.

So, I am up to nine chickens. Should be down to seven since I am pretty sure I have 2 roos, at least. But I want a silkie so bad! I thought they looked dumb but the guy who sold me the rocks had one and it was the cutest thing. :( I already have too many birds.

Ok compost friends! This is my composter

This is the water that drains out when I wet it down. Can I safely use this on my garden without killing anything?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! :)

Yup compost tea is healthy for gardens. I try not to water directly on plants though.

you are probably right! Lol
I am no expert myself! :)

I learned long ago, I'm not an expert at anything.

I have a question... Would antibiotics fed to the parents of chicks kill said chicks? I am having a huge issues with just my black bantam Cochin chicks dying. They hatch fine and then they just get sluggish and die.

Besides that, I got 6 BBB poults today and I have 3 chicks in the hatcher at the moment. I am super eggcited about the swap! I will have more birds than my carriers & cages can handle!

I need to invest in some chicken crates....

Ugh... Kodie, my dog, just brought me a baby bird with 2 broken legs... Seems strong and healthy though, other than the legs... What do I do!!

I am all about helping. I have tried several baby birds. They end up dieing. So I would mix some vinegar and baking soda. That is a nice painless way to go. If you need farther instructions, you can look it up on the internet for the amounts and container size.

Thank you Silkie and ReyVaughn for the info, and advice. Sorry it took me so long to respond, I was having issues with my internet (aka another bill took priority). As much as I want the eggs for baking, I think I'll wait until we move and I have the pond dug before I buy anymore ducks.

Here are some pics of the kiddos enjoying their first time free ranging:

Here are some close up pics of Roo. I'm starting to wonder if we should change the name to Kanga?

Roo is a buckeye and, if I remember right, around 11 wks old.

Duncan being a ham:

My sister (who I've complained about before, regarding her idea of a pet) has decided she doesn't want her ducks anymore, I quote "I only wanted to watch them grow up" (funny considering she's seen them 5 times since buying them), and has decided they can fly south come fall. I think this is stupid, considering the time and money put into them so far not to mention til fall rolls around. I haven't eaten duck for years and Gavin doesn't want to try it. So before I post on the Buy~Sell~Trade, is anyone interested in 4 mallard hens (I'm fairly sure they're hens) who are 8 wks old? I'm asking $30 for the lot, I'm willing to drive up to an hour to meet anyone who wants them. I am not worried about what is done with them once they leave, so don't feel you'd need to keep them alive. Please pm me if interested, I'll wait a few days before I post it on the other thread.

ETA: I'll be looking for some Wheaten or Blue Ameraucana pullets in the near future. I want some new blood, as well as enough girls to keep Duncan happy. Hoping to find between 3 and 6. He currently has Angel, and the two EE girls Fudge and Ripple.
