Quote: Awe so cute! Roo and Stitch are doing wonderfully. Roo has taken to sticking with the new chicks, I'm fairly sure Roo's a she, and snuck in with them when we weren't paying attention. Roo's been in there ever since, the chicks cuddle right up to her and she's acting like a mother hen. Even went so far as to chase off another pullet that snuck in. Stitch snuck in yesterday and has been in with them since, I wonder if she didn't miss Roo.

LeBlackbird, omg I love panda. So cute, I want him! What kind of turkey is he? I just picked up 3 two month old royal palm and bourbon crosses. They have the cutest call/song. Love whistling to them

I have two 6 week old Royal Palms, Lily and Dexter. Lily's a sweetie but Dexter's a handful! (Dexter loves hissing at me and fluffing himself up)

Both Panda and Titan are Mottled Black turkeys

Just like mottled chickens, the amount of white in their plumage increases with age, reaching its most impressive at around three years. Here's an example bird (definitely not mine!)

Tweetr1979, that's a smart man! Having trouble hunting down local mills to push the darn feed costs down a bit, the turkeys are PIGS!

I also need to do this without really any power tools--------------or once I find the right wood----go to a friends to have them help cut wood with their tools and expertise

I have a drill and a hammer.

I need to use some hand saws...........

hope its do-able.

Well Lisa:

I think you need to find yourself a carpenter BFF......(power tools included)...imho, keep searching CL, there's a coop out there with your name on it!

Hello all----I have been busy keeping up reading all your posts!   I don't have much to add but just wanted to let you all know I am trying to keep up with this gang.

I almost bought a rabbit hutch off of craigs list but someone else got it first.    After calculating some of the materials costs etc.........it seemed like a good idea , considering their price.

I guess my original idea of converting a dresser will go forward............it just seems a bit too small .......
I may need to add a back deck or additional room to it and a big run.........

I hope to see some folks chicks and coops this weekend.

Maybe Stakes and Blarneyeggs----I hope I got the names right!

I am interested and nervous.................this is a very very new adventure and I am an animal lover but not a farmer!  You all seem to have very established set ups and animals!

I just have a small suburban backyard.......and an interest...................so lets see how it goes................

Good luck! I can't wait to see pictures!

WT Bleep.... awe man that is just ewww..

tweetr.

ever eaten one of these?

Where did it come from?

grub, about the only thing that will eat them are skunks, will dig for them, tears a yard clear up and i heard the guineas will also eat them

Last year be again this yer we have HUNDREDS of holes in the yards. Hubby saw the skunk one morning who is responsible....

Yep the skunks love these. They make a mess out of the yard and show up more when you are laden with grubs

How do you get rid of them? We have a very large yard so it would be expensive to treat with chemicals. The stupid skunks are stinking up the place and ruining my yard digging for them.

One of my white rock hens didn't come in tonight from free ranging. We have 8 acres, majority woods so its hard to look everywhere. Hubby doesn't want them to free range anymore since this is the second one we lost. I love seeing them out in the yard. Fingers crossed she turns up tomorrow.

Question. I have 2 leghorn hens, 1 leghorn rooster and we just put the 10 white rock pullets out there 2 weeks ago. We moved the 2 silkie hens and 1 rooster into their own coop. They all free range together. The silkies stick together and the leghorns stick together. Will the white rocks eventually start sticking with the leghorns? I like how the rooster keeps the girls from trouble and I wish he would look over the white rocks too.

FYI my iPad is horrible to type on....or I'm just really bad at it. I apologize for random periods, half words and sentences that don't make sense!

Where did it come from? Asian market has them in Reading.

Pelletized Lime is cheap. It changes the PH of the soil. Conditions are unfavorable for the grubs and the lawn will thank you. 40# bag of pelletized lime at Home depot around $4.00

We're in Lower Bucks County

Thank you all for the condolences, I'm trying to give our survivor some extra love & attention but shes running from me & wont eat anything. Any suggestions?

Wow you're so close! I am in Lower Moreland.

I would say yogurt and grapes (not necessarily mixed together). Mine go craaaazy over those foods and it seems as if that is the mostly case all around with chickens.

Wow panda is sooooo cute! And weird question but do you do anything with turkeys other then meat? Like do you eat their eggs?

K, so I come on and try to catch up and am dead tired and half asleep...........but here's what I got out of the last hundred or so posts:
pop.gif

***Chad is gonna be climbing trees in a kilt (and on that show "Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmerman", those almost incubated egg thingies are considered a "Viagra" in Singapore where they sell them on street corners for that reason.........so things are about to get real interesting around here)

***We have a (new) aussie friend who is making Jalepeno Poppers

**** There are a bunch of cute new Turkey chicks, puppies, baby goats, etc.

****We're coming up with recipes to cook bugs and see who will eat them

If this is all anywhere near correct, I just wanna say I LOVE IT HERE, LOVE YOU GUYS, AND I WANT IN!!! I'll bring a keg and some lasagna!!!
