Try a yard with 50+ years of neglect.

Been working on it since we moved in in December. There is so much scrap & old tires out there it's not even funny. Then there's the broken glass everywhere, the burrs & briars, the old buildings full of trash that have fallen in...
We only have an acre but it was all trimming, cutting, clearing etc - total PIA. We are looking to buy it. 3 bedrooms, 6 car garage, basement the size of the house above, 1 acre of land and they are asking $60K for it.

At least your gardens are in. I only have squash, tomatoes, garlic & onions planted so far. A lot of the problem is a man who wants to be a bum & sit on his rump instead of helping, but the rain hasn't helped any with my schedule either since I also am trying to build coops for the ducks that are growing out.

Yea that's two projects at once, not an easy task. I was lucky enough to finish my coop before the planting season so I got my stuff on time. But I think everyone who has ever built a coop understands how time consuming it is. I had to stay up late a few nights for mine because my chickens outgrew the brooder

Bing in bourbon ??? what is that LOL  Dinner out is always nice!!

Awww how cute!

Sounds like fun, minus the stinky puppy lol

Sorry that happened, I hate the USPS at the best of times, I ordered ferret food yesterday - it will ship from hazelton & apparently won't get here till between the 3rd & the 8th of July - how that is possible I have no idea, it isn't like hazleton is halfway across the US ... grrrr

:smack to the USPS

Bing (dark red) cherries in bourbon....drunken cherries!

Warning venting ahead lol

Looks like i'll be calling animal control today, hopefully they get off lunch soon & answer the phone.

The old man nextdoor to us died months ago and he had a few cats - like 3 of them.  Anyway I have been seeing more and more orange cats (like his older ones) - there has to be about 15 now (if not more) all in varying sizes.  I thought a coon or something was eating the dry dog food outside, well while digging out the garden before I turn around and there are 3 little orange cats going to town on my dogs food.

For a while there, there were relatives of the old guy coming over feeding them while they cleaned the property & rest of the acres of land full of JUNK for an auction and I haven't seen them for about 2 weeks so now the **** cats are coming over here, they are totally feral - you can't even approach them, they hiss and are just mean.  I like animals but i am not going to be feeding animals that aren't my own.

The relatives don't even come and feed the 2 horses, they leave it for the grandson of the guy that died that lives on the other side of us to do it - it isn't HIS responsibility and they get out ALL the time, nearly causing a few accidents with cars, the mother horse you can approach, just but the son is just down right mean and out of control. The horses haven't been properly socialized for years we have been told. I am just sooooo angry at the whole situation

UGH! Why can't people just be responsible for their animals??

Red Beet Eggs.
A friend of mine moved to Louisiana, got married to a guy born and raised on Louisiana, and had kids. They were here visiting last night and we had red beet eggs with dinner. The husband had no clue what they were and the son asked what kind of bird laid an egg like that. I did not know red beet eggs were a regional thing. A guy I work with told me his daughter in law, from Philly, never heard of them either.

I'd never heard of them till I moved to PA either. Other regional foods: filling, lebanon bologna, dippy eggs (they have them everywhere else, but just call them "up", pork roll/taylor ham, though that's more of a northeast thing, birch beer, chocolate cake with peanut butter frosting, whoopie pies.

Same lol but sometimes I got the european route and use mayo - i know i can hear you all gagging now lol

I like mayo on my fries, there's a place here that does them with cheese and crabmeat and a side of ranch dressing *drool*

Blue cheese dressing on fries is the best!

Yummm

There were no coops here at all 6 months ago. Now we have 2 chicken coops, 4 duck/goose pens, a turkey pen & numerous small pens & cages for bantams, quail & babies. I still need at least 5-6 more pens to finish separating what is already here & growing out into pens by breed & that's even with letting the geese share with the ducks. If I do pens for the geese too I will need at least 3 more.

LOL - I think we will, just waiting on hubbys next $2 pay rise in a few months lol then we will go have a talk to the bank.

It needs a TON of work, rewiring, changing the copper downstairs to that pex stuff, I want to knock out a wall (if I can) and the there is all the interior stuff, removing ugly panel walls and replacing with drywall, painting, putting storage in etc lol

Nice! You must have a straight bit of land, ours is like a weird melted pizza wedge, I hate that it isn't straight and I hate the huge sand mound out the back - it takes up so much room I could use .... for more chickens

wow that is impressive!!!!!!! If I had the money, we'd be buying the land all behind us in the auction coming up - there has to be at least 7 acres and I would have bunch more animals and of course straighten out the awkward layout of our land.

Quote: It's just clearing messes & trying to find spots remotely level so you don't go sliding on your rear across the pen when you walk in after it has rained that is the problem. I don't have a single pen that sits on level ground.

Quote: Mine is all hills. Fisherlady can verify there is not a flat spot in my entire yard...LOL You should have seen us trying to find a level enough spot for her plucker.
