Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

Hope everyone had a good day today, didn't do much here apart from playing with the 4yr old, giving the chicks some treats when they weren't cooped up from all the storms and rain and watching them playing in their yard. Lazy, lazy day here today.

I managed to finish editing (not a super job lol) all the mini vids I got of the fireworks, cut out the boring lighting bits in most, cut out a bunch of duplicate firework footage, added some music lol and I was done.

If anyone wants to go look feel free to http://sdrv.ms/12hjZww - we were letting off fireworks for about 2 hours on and off and managed to cut it down to 14 mins lol

gonna be downsizing the rooster numbers in the next few weeks, this will also take fertility down,,,if anyone wants any fertile mixed eggs before then, let me know,,,,will ship for the price of shipping...

some rambling musings....I have really good neighbors...and four of my neighbors think my chooks are the bomb and think me getting a roo is a good thing....given some of the posts of folks having nasty neighbors, I'm pretty lucky...going forward, I'll be looking for four more pullets, a pair or three of CCL and maybe a marans or two pullets...nothing better for relations than letting the neighborhood kids play/feed the chooks...

Since you brought it up, I also have awesome neighbors. None of them have any problem with my flock, roosters included. My flock is technically illegal but my 3 acres sits between 1 neighbor with 11 acres and the other has 9. My neighbor with 11 acres said that I can "lease" him 1 acre and he would "own" my flock making them his chickens on his owned and leased property of more than 10 acres, making it a farm and making the chickens perfectly legal. Did that make sense? He teaches me a ton about farming and growing my garden every time I go visit him just to BS. My other neighbor is super friendly and saves all of his egg cartons for me. What a great place to live!

So. Tonight we made the bottom of the pheasant and mandie coop into a -new temp- coop for the ducks until the large one is done so they don't have to be in the dog crates any more. So we got it done other then cosmetic work like paint... I will get pics up of it tomorrow.. its nothing special just something thought up of and done in 24 hours lol!

Old picture but the pen is under that opening in the back behind the mandie nesting box... there is chicken wire between the mandie pen and the duck coop..

so the watering nipples are threaded the same way as the bottle thread------is this so................because that would be so so easy----and I will definitely do that! good to know!
or did you have to rig up the nipple system somehow if it doesn't share the same threading?

You have to drill and tap the threads into the bottle cap. I may be able to do that part for you and mail you the cap. I think all bottle caps are the same so I have a 20 oz bottle in front of me I can use. Do you have a nipple to use?

Wine making question.
I was told to cut up a watermelon, place it in a crock,, add raisins and sugar, cover with a towel, and put it in the basement for 2-3 weeks.
I was told by another to add some yeast and keep upstairs for one week.

How much sugar do I add? Do I need to add yeast? Do I stir it?
Doing the FF makes me think I need yeast, but no raisins. Are the raisins for flavor? Is this stuff going to taste okay?

This is the only recipe I've tried for watermelon wine (so far): http://www.celebrationgeneration.com/blog/2011/08/03/homemade-watermelon-wine/ It turned out fairly nice for my first attempt at wine, I'm more of a hard liquor or beer person and am very picky about how wine tastes for me to like it. I wish I could find the wine recipes from my great-grandmother, they made all kinds on the farm.

Found an easier one on youtube, probably closer to what they did on the farm:
