Yes, it has to be administered to day old chicks. If you are hatching at home, you can order it for $20 from www.jefferslivestock.com
It's a pretty big bottle with about 1000 doses, but at least it is cheap!
Just for curiosity sake..what would happen if they were a 'couple' days old, could you still give it to them? I ask because I don't know...I have access to a animal supply place, I could get it to them in the 'day-old' time frame...just curious as to why it has to be that way.

Danielle, I am do happy for you@ I don't think I'm going to get any here, my house got to hot and my incubator overheated, so it's off to three basement where it is cooler. You're going to be addicted now! So awesome!

I have had that happen. Unfortunately I do not have a basement to put mine in. Sorry about your eggs. Hey you never know maybe you will get lucky..:fl

hahaha. I am sorry to hear your having temp. issues. I know this weather is not making it easy. The room I have the incubator in now is getting very warm now...the humidity is climbing- not too sure if there is too much I can do about it, I really don't want to have to move everything

..., but it will be good for them when they are in the brooder...oh, I have a pic

This is a crate we picked up at a garage sale 5.00!! It is huge Going to use it for quarantine and transport or whatever else. It has a pull out tray too. We put a large box in the cage for now, w/ some paper. They will be in the box until they are bigger, then we will remove the box, put cardboard around the edges to keep them and to keep the 'stuff' inside the crate. The heat lamp sits on top. Easy-peasy!! Rocks are in the waterer and the FF(chick starter) is ready. I think I am ready for them

....hahaha

Quote: I have the same cage for a sick pen when needed,,,used it once for baby quail and ended up chasing 50 of them around the house, they went right thru the sides....

careful of using newspaper in a brooder ,,,,it can be slippery and cause spraddle leg in chicks...if you have any other bedding, you would be better to use that and cover with paper towels for the first couple days.

That vax has to be given in the first 24 hrs of life, I think, if I remember right
