Just a fun little question: Has there ever been something that one of your chickens WOULDNT eat?

In my case there hasn't been anything they wouldn't eat, or even anything they wouldn't go nuts over! They even eat stuff they're not supposed to like dirt and feces.

In regards to this question, sorry for the grossness, but do any of your chickens try to eat dog doo? :sick. Just wondering if this a problem... My instincts tell me they probably wouldn't if they are well fed and happy.

My chooks have a 'field day' in manure, but I believe they are searching out the maggots.

Yay!!! Went and checked on the eggs under my Scovie and all 5 are piped!!! Yay!!!!

Woo Hooo!! Pics please!

People with shopping for clothes issues.  I have a place for you.  It called one stop plus.  I know it says plus, but they have every size you can imagine.  For example I am tall, fat, and not a grandma.  I can find clothes there.  I have a friend who is a short, fat, also not a grandma that can find clothes there.  Then there one of my other friends who is skinny but because of her height, not a small size.  She is tall, average weight, and also a professional.  She had found clothes there also.  The prices are not to bad either, and they always have sales and coupons.

Welcome! Chester County here.

Applejack = hard cider. Apple cider that has fermented to alcohol, but not yet vinegar.
For those buying ACV. If your cider turns hard and you don't drink it all, put it in a warm dark area in a container with a large open top. Cover top with cheese cloth and wait. It will turn into natural ACV. You can jump start it with a little vinegar with mother if you want.

Dang! Thought you were giving the recipe for Applejack here.

Since you asked.....I do small batches

From your beer supply store get a :1gal jug, rubber stopper, and a CO2 thingy...(plastic thing on top), and yeast (I have been using Red Star Champagne)
From the grocery store: 1gal of Motts Apple juice (make sure the preservative is Vitamin C based not the other stuff(will kill the yeast) and some brown sugar (or white)

1. the package of yeast is made for 5 gallon batches...use 1/5
2. different yeasts like different temps the type I mentioned works well 60-70 degrees...(some yeasts like is colder and take longer)
3. you will need about 10 swing top bottles if you want it carbonated(grolch SP beer is the best alternative and a good excuse to buy beer)
4. mix the yeast with a bit of warm water to get it started...
5. dissolve 1/2 cup sugar (using the apple juice) in the jug and add rest of juice to jug then add the yeast to jug put the rubber stopper in and the CO2 thingy..(a bit of water is needed for the CO2)
6. put the jug away for 5 days....tic toc
7. On day 5, fill your swing top bottles and put away for two more days (I am experimenting with adding a bit apple juice here to get a sweet finish)
8. I strongly suggest using a funnel in all procedures as keeping things clean counts
9. On day 7, refrigerate to stop the process
10. Want to try this on real cider...but have had to make due with Motts...PS the last swig is all yeast...
The costs: rubber stopper and CO2= $2, Jug=$6, yeast=$1.50 and Motts $4.50

I have two good sources of pasturized cider near me. Works the best for cider based "drinks". No preservatives, but natural yeasts are killed. Masonic homes in Elizabethtown, and country store in Mount Joy. Country store sells Kauffmans from Bird-in-hand. Masonic homes sells their own. Problem is the price when doing 5 gallons and up.

This is unpasteurized, they literally press it and bottle it right there at the stand. There are a few places around here to get it pasteurized or un-p. I prefer un-p for applejack and unfermented drinking, but it doesn't stay n/a nearly as long as pasteurized. I was told by most of the old timers (my grandparents age or older) around here that the pasteurized will usually just go bad before it would ever ferment, so I always use the un-p. It has a better taste (while unfermented) to me as well, nothing like fresh pressed cider there really isn't. I gotta see if the one store still sells un-p, I think after the odwalla juice incident they began pasteurizing all of theirs for fear of lawsuits. But when I was in elementary school we'd go out to the store/orchard every fall and each come home with fresh pressed un-p cider. I let mine sit too long one year I chaperoned (18 or 19 at the time), that's how I found out what applejack was, and why venting is so important...

When I intentionally do a gallon I just put 2 cinnamon sticks in and about 1/4 cup of sugar, let it sit in the cupboard over night, then stick it in the fridge with the top loose enough for gases to escape and it does the rest on it's own.

I should have explained a little more in that rant.....problem for me is the low cut of today's jeans....after numerous surgeries my stomachs looks like a treasure map...most jeans that I try seem to fall right across all those scars..

I'm a guy and shouldn't know this, but...

When shopping for jeans there are low rise, medium rise and high rise. It refers to the distance from crotch to waist. Low belongs on skinny 14yo high is closer to belly button. It pays to pay a little extra for the proper cut. Try medium or high and see which fits best.

I print catalogs for a living and read a lot of fashion stuff in them.
I think Macy's has a line of stylish in different cuts, as does just my size (a part of Haines)
