Has anyone here that lives in the suburbs ever had a rooster? I live on 2.5 acres and I assume it would probably be a bad idea?

I lived right in the middle of town where I used to live & had about 10 roos at 1 point in time. No one ever said a word except my landlord & he went behind my back & tried to tell the health dept that my coops were too close to the house. When I got the letter from the health dept I called them & invited them to come measure my coops & everything & never heard from them again. They came out about 2 weeks later, never knocked on the door or anything, measured distance from house to nearest corner of coop & left without a word. I talked to a cop a couple months later who told me they couldn't say a word about my coops or birds because I was in compliance with all local ordinances & my birds were NPIP tested. Even if they got a complaint from a neighbor, they ignored it because they knew I was in compliance.
Not sure what your local ordinance says, but I do know if you are in compliance they can't say anything about your birds.

Yeppers, I'm suburban...sort of...when I got chooks, I told all my neighbors about two weeks prior to gage their reaction...they all thought it was a kewl thing to do....later when I got the roo...I checked with them first to make sure they were ok with it...they were...I have a couple of neighbors that buy my eggs and a couple that save their veggie scraps for my crew...I think one of my neighbors may be getting a backyard situation together for themselves in the spring...I found that cultivating good neighborhood relations is important...really roosters are not any louder than a barking dog....
well most of you know that I am very new to raising chickens..........I have 4 chickens and 3 of them are almost at laying age. They will "come of age" in mid Oct/mid Nov
I am already thinking it would be so cool to have a few chicks to raise in the spring.
I could order day old chicks etc........or maybe some of you all will have chicks .......
another idea...........and this is my question for you all........has anyone ever had a rooster just come and "visit" for a short time to fertilize some of the gals?
Would that even work? I am wondering if the rooster would feel comfortable in a new setting and the girls and what about possible sharing of diseases?
What do you all think about this?
