Does anyone else find themselves sliding down a hill when out checking the flock? On their bottom. On a sled. Repeatedly?

Ha ha! DH would never let me do it, so I am glad he isn't here!
 
That is terrible. So sorry! I hate the thought of losing any of them.

And as for the sliding down the hill? Yes but not intentionally and no sled. Just my butt. D:

Opened up the coop, put down the feed, hung the waters this morning then went back in to wait till they laid their eggs.

Went out about 10 ish, collected today's offerings and opened the run door.
Everybody just stood there looking out at the snow. I swear I could hear the commentary playing in my head:

Black Orpington to Buff Orpington in doorway: "Go on! Hop out there! It won't hurt you!"

Buff Orpington to Black Orpington directly behind her as she tries to squeeze through the crowd at her back peering out the door over her shoulder: "Uh uh! YOU go out there! You think it won't hurt you, YOU go first!" "I'm going back in the coop!"

White Leghorn as she shoves past Orpingtons, EE rooster, and random chicks: "Move! I'LL go out. YOU are a bunch of SCARDY BABIES!"
*Jumps up on door ledge. Snow falls on her head, squaks and runs back up coop ramp*

My chickens are a bunch of pampered spoiled brats! I swear! XD

I try not to do things like that to much,,,these old bones do not heal so quick anymore.

Thats poultry pimp, thank youv very much! :)

She is anxious to eat them. She has actually helped pluck and gut chickens. Not a fan of it, but understands that its where food comes from.
 
My coops are at the bottom of my hill in my backyard. It's a rocky hill, loose rocks, so I am constantly slipping down the hill. Thought all the walking up and down the hill would make me skinny, no such luck lol.

lessons learned...well, I had a broody and let her set a few chicks....late in the season.....I could've pulled the day olds and set the brooder and opted to let the broody raise them...as they'd be integrated in the flock....well, two were lost to hawks....think things would've gone better in the spring or summer...c'est la vie
 
Watching my girls seeing their first snow was so funny this morning. We have a small area on the roof that is still open so there was this little short band of snow in the run. They walked all around it a few times, then Gracie tilted her head to the side to get a closer look, Gertie watching on....then Gracie leaned down & pecked it, she must have liked it so she pecked again. Naturally then Gertie thought she had something so she rushed in & took a peck herself. Now they both are on the prowl in the run to find places where other bits of snow have come in...lol It was deeper than their little short legs or I'd have left them out in the yard, I think that would have been a hoot to watch.
