Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

Hello everyone,

New to the hobby, picking up my first two this weekend, and getting a couple more chicks at the end of the month. I am about 45 minutes west of Philly, and look forward to being able to learn from you all.

Hi and welcome from the Poconos!

2 Blackstars that are 2 weeks old, then waiting on some Rhode Island Reds that will be there on the 31st.  From a farm up in Collegeville.  On the lookout for a Plymouth Rock or two in the next few weeks too.  I am down south of West Chester.

South of WC? I wonder if we're neighbors, I'm right off of Stroudsburg Road.  You're a brave soul brooding in winter….although I've got some 2 week old chicks and 2 hour old chicks that are going to brood inside.  YIKES!

I have 6 chicks in the brooder & 3 more batches of eggs set with 10-30 eggs per batch. Due 14th, 21st & 27th. Last batch got set a day early to finish filling the bator before moving it. Eggs maintain heat much better & don't end up broken from rolling around if the bator is stuffed full. Only had 2 with minor cracks after traveling 2 very rutted, slippery 1/4 mile long driveways with a 2 hr drive in between. I think they traveled quite well. Checked development 2 days after the move & only had a couple quitters.

. With the generosity of friends here on PA thread ...this bird and her first egg was possible!! Thanks Ray & Chad!!!!

Next to her pen mates Wyandotte egg.

..yeah, chick-a-dee...this chicken had such a hard start, didn't even know if she was gonna make it. Out of 3 others, she is the only to survive. She was really picked on by the others, but boy times have changed. She is the first one to the food now and she stays there, won't let the others push her out!! From an to an egg...can't believe it!!! So AWESOME!!!! She is also letting me pet her again, just so nice to have her 'personality' back.

Everyone out and enjoying the stretching room!
PeakyBeaky...this is for you...here are the girls...getting big!!

Danielle, My hat is off to you. It takes a great deal of persistence and dedication to raise a lone chick and integrate her into the flock like you did. KUDOS!!

PeakyBeaky...this is for you...here are the girl

And your Wyandottes are gorgeous!

I am down off Wawaset. Yeah these guys are going to be inside as well... trying to get a jump on things so maybe be lucky and get some eggs ;)
Yup, we're neighbors.

So I am so happy to report that this very morning I got 2 eggs.............

from my newly laying wyandottes...............

THE VERY DAY AFTER THE POLAR VORTEX!!!

it is amazing to me that they would be laying a day after such a cold and possibly stressful day for them!!!

maybe it was just stressful for us? worrying about them and another day for them???

The eggs are smaller than from my NHR and since I got 2 this morning I know its rom both wyandottes.

Now if only I could get my very first blue egg.............that is next............stay tuned!

..definitely want to see pics...love the blue eggs.
Thank You so very much all

...I know you all remember your first eggs!! I think it is awesome whenever a new girl get's her "egg-on"!! Now..I have 3 more to wait for!!
pop.gif
..the only issue is going to be figuring out who's egg belongs to who...those Wyandotte eggs look so much alike. It is easier with only two laying...but 5?! I don't know how some of you do it with larger flocks

Knowing which is Chicka's is gonna be real easy!!
