Where do you buy these 90 watt bulbs? I want some for brooding chicks. The ones at the dollar store are NOT a bargain.

I have a relative who, due to an eye condition, can not function under florescent. They have a stockpile of cases (literally) of them if I ever need any. Been stocking up on them since they first announced their discontinuation years ago!

They also will continue to make the decorative ones, they will work just as well.

Here are my 'tandom broodies', Popcorn, my tried and true best girl is in the front there, she's brooding with a hatch mate, they also both have 'Silkie' genes...I think it helps if they are the same breed to tandom hatch. My thoughts on broodiness is that it's a bit like the plague. Once one of them starts brooding, they ALL get in the game. One of the reasons I move my broody Mommas out of the main coop, so I don't lose out too much on egg production.

I love the broodies! And really envious of the hut! Awesome broody zone for you!

Both are beautiful... but I am really, really loving the look of Popcorn.... I am a sucker for the laced neck feather look!

They split the 6 because the other 2 were bantams. I had to put them in with the other 4 to keep warm on the trip. Don't ask how I keep tropical fish warm on the motorcycle.
I have to ask, where do the fish go???

Hello, I am trying to get some information from someone who has experience with leg banding their birds. In getting to the point where I have to many birds to know who is who just by sight alone. So I order to keep track for breeding purposes I am wanting to leg band them for parentage and also age etc book keeping purposes. I found leg bands sold in packs of 25 numbered accordingly up to 100. I mainly have Cochins and brahmas and was looking at the 3/4 inch bands, but do also have some wyandottes, barnevelders, ameraucana, and marans. Being they lack the leg feathering and size would the same size for them or should I buy a 25 pack or a smaller size for them? Also with the heavily feathered legged breeds how do you put the leg band on? Do you pluck the feathers or just put it on top over the leg feathers. Thank you for your help. It's my first time buying them so some knowledge would be thankful:) here is a link to the type I was looking at.

I use everyday zip ties, in different color combo's,,,for instance I have a pen of dominique but they came from 2 different breeders so they have a different color tie on them,,,,all the dom's have a green tie on the left leg but some have a black tie on the right and some have a white tie on the left....I hope that made sense

And whoever said that people don't know how big they get, there is a reason for that. No one is telling us! I have searched, and I have asked. I know a wild turkey tom gets to about 4'. I am in the dark about the other turkeys.
I might have a seven foot turkey, and think it is normal.

depends on the breed,,,I just put one in the freezer Sat,,,he weighed at 17 pounds processed.

I guess I need to find a new place to store them. I had just thrown 30 some away last year when I was told you wanted them. I don't dare toss them again!

Maybe I will find something to do with them.
I use some in the garden,,,just because the dirt hurts the knees, and also to help with weeds when I get lazy
Fish go down my shirt. I can tell you, I know what it feels like to be tickled by a fish. Longer trips with colder temps go in my bra.
I never would have thought of using zip ties. Thank you!
Feed bags in the garden will work! Thanks for that too!!

do you have the space to seperate those breeds when young, I always find that the broad breasted grow so much faster that the little guys end up getting hurt and get very little time at the feeder...

they will also need to be processed sooner or you will end up with 50 pound turkey,,,with all that aside, the broad breasted have such a great personality that it seems wrong to process.
