really could use some opinions on the silkies,,,should I just go ahead and process the last 2 bigger roo's and tell the customer that I will not have them anymore, or would it be worth trying to breed them again....I have the 2 bigger white males, then I have 2 smaller males that wouldn't be worth processing, and I have 2 small hen's 1 white and 1 partidge.....if I try to breed I would be after a larger size and light colors, afraid if I mix other breeds I may lose some of the traits like black skin and bones, and that is what the customer looks for.

It is hard for me to see this breed as a meat bird, but if the market is there I can see trying it

well, you could tell them they are hard to come by and they'll cost extra to get...

I did not forget about you,,,I am waiting till this weekend when I start to move birds around to take a good look at what was overwintered in the quail cages, I kept some breeders but not sure what I have to spare till I start hatching eggs again this season....my quail do not come inside they get overwintered in a corner of the equipment shed with tarps thrown over the cage when the weather gets to bad...

I also recommend that you get more than 1 female,,,,,,,those boys can quickly overbreed just 1 female....

great! I don't think there is any hurry!

Do you think 4 females is enough? I have been reading and some people say 4-7 females?

I will need to build a cage or buy one.............and set things up an all.

I am glad to know that you can overwinter them outdoors..............that's a real plus.

I have a garden shed that I might be able to use in bad weather if I can organize the contents a bit to make room!

if you don't have grown birds.........maybe I could try quail babies?

Wing, 1 of your Bresse eggs is pipped.
daddy is most likely a OE , that could be interesting
A nice heavy green egg layer...cool!
I was thinking more of the body type of bresse with some color added from the OE side, could make some nice eye candy
What colors is the daddy?
older pic, he is a little more filled out now.
Bresse baby has hatched. Looks mostly white. I'll get pix once it dries.

Anyone interested in 3 week old RIR, buff orpington or barred rock cockerels? I have one of each. I also have two 3 week old khaki campbell ducklings. Figured I'd ask here before I post on craigslist. I'm between York and Harrisburg.
