When I got home there were 4 babies but one just hatched!! Five black chicks! A penciled rock mix, an australorp (i think its pure), two silkie mix babies, and an easter egger.

oh, no! I hope you get some yellow ones soon!
I don't have any australorp hens... but do have black EEs, 4 black giants and an australorp roo.
They are cute! any activity on the other eggs now?

Oh, I thought you had australorp hens! There are pips in pretty much all but like, 2.

I would say the EEs are most likely an australorp mix, but can't call them Australorp when not sure. They were hatched by a school class, and I got them by default when the school folks didn't have any homes lined up for them... but no one could tell me the origin of the eggs for me to get more details.

The 6th one is zipping really fast! I watched it go from pip to 3/4 zipped in a half hour! It'll be out in about a half hour! Guess what? It's another black chick! :lau

Yes, and they'll be jumping up on your shoulder pretty soon....wear glasses....I've been pecked in the eye twice...(shiny objects).....

I'll be favoring my glasses more so than the contacts to wear in the upcoming weeks. Watch out if you a have lovely red pimple too. They got me on that one too, lol!

Good advice!  It does seem to be a favored target...  even poor Mindy has learned to keep her face turned away.

Our dog already got a peck in the eye. I shouldn't have laughed, but I did!

Congrats! I'm so excited for you! You'll never get any sleep now! ;)

I definitely won't! All the babies are peeping their butts off in the bator, I can hear them all the way from the living room! I may have to move them to the brooder tonight (even though it's "against the rules").

Question: One hatched and has some goo on his head. It looked like some yolk. Most of it came off but there's still some on there, I'm afraid it won't dry. Should I take him out and sponge it off with a damp sponge?
