Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

Awesome! And I'm hopefully going to the swap this Sunday! :)

I'll be looking for a bantam cochin hen and any type of rooster that catches my eye I may get. They have to be nice though. I don't know. A roo just has to meet my certain criteria and I have to like the vibe he gives off.

I'll be there around 8 tomorrow. I'm hoping to find some silkies, polish or serama's. Fingers crossed!

Quote: Ivermectin (Ivomec, Frontline) is great for lice, mites, worms, ticks, fleas, etc...
I just set all the eggs for a couple days after treating but there are several people here who have said they eat them with no withdrawl period. Ivermectin is the same medicine used to treat worms in humans, so for all the more dose you will get in a couple eggs it's not going to hurt you at all. The generic, Ivermectin, is about 1/3 to 1/4 the namebrand price. Use .5 ml for a full size bird, .25 for juveniles or bantams & just a couple drops for chicks. Split dose & apply near vent, under wings & back of neck on bigger birds & just pick a location for babies.

Permethrin is the active ingredient in Sevin, but as already stated Sevin is not recommended for animal use because it also contains other ingredients. There is Permethrin that is specifically for poultry but I have found it to be more expensive & require a much higher dosage to treat than Ivermectin & there is also a withdrawl period required for eggs since it is not safe for human use.

What would you do ???

pigeons were out in full force today,,, They live in our silo....noticed a fresh pile of poo from one of them and thought I saw roundworms in it,,,, I hate to toss eggs but would you go ahead and worm everybody,,,, I also hate to medicate when not needed, but these pigeons are here and if they have worms it's a good chance everyone does...

I searched like an idiot walking around the pens looking at poo, didn't see any, but.........

is there any kind of worm med that does not have a withdrawal time...

I went twice last year when I still lived closer. Wish I had a car!!!

Quick question! Tomorrow is my first visit to the swap and I'm looking for chicks. I'm going to bring a box, some food and water for them. Anything else I should bring?

mowing everything down............is that too much though?  you seem very knowledgeable so I value your opinion.............

Mowing it all works on strawberries because their crowns are at ground level and they grow new leaves each spring.

Mowing raspberries means no spring crop, but the everbearing ones produce a second crop in August or Sept on new growth. This second crop is generally much smaller, but with all the plant's energy going to the new growth instead of making spring berries, that crop is much larger. Mowing it all prevents the pain (literally, those things have thorns) of proper pruning by hand, which in my experience gets neglected.

Are you saying you dont transplant strawberries and you just mow them off every fall?

You sent them to Sarasweatman, she lives within walking distance (maybe....I'd have to pack a snack). Pics when they're done hatching, we are up to 7 with one zipped. (Out of 12!)
