Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

Would really like to know why the predators are being so terrible...never had problems like this before..I have my own theory but it is just a guess...
My brother gave me one of his small guns, not sure it will do the job though, especially with coyote...I think it is a 410, reminds of a little squirrel hunting gun.

That little ole 410 will do quite well, especially if you use slugs. They are quite capable of taking deer. If you really think you need more or would like to try some other options, come by some day :) just plan in advance. Not sure exactly what you are up against, but I'm assuming coyote. I have several options there.

Good to know..
Hopefully this one will work for me, hubby has a few around but they are just not right for me, and I am usually the one there when problems come up...

Both coyote and fox are showing on camera

Fayette county!

Welcome from Cambria County!

I appreciate you sharing this. I wonder also, what type of turner? I just got this octagon and I turned it on and maybe an hour or 2 later I returned thinking it was broken because it was such a gradual movement. Lol. Of course after monitoring it more closely, noticed it was just so gradual.

I have a hova bator worth an auto turner and I did the same thing lol. I had no idea it was such a slow, gradual, movement lol

x2.... though contacting them with the lot # would be a good idea

I will be doing that.

Maybe the bag got wet at the store.

I don't know, but it's a lot of wasted feed!

Ugh! I just had a hawk attach myself. Your little Oddball almost got snatched. Got a "feather trim", and when I inspected closer, some skin "tears", if that is the right word. She seems to be doing just fine, but I brought her inside right away because I don't want to risk another attack with her and I want to monitor her. Close call....

I am trying to get my garden ready for vegetables.

I am also considering a section of straw bale gardening

Do you all think its a bad idea to put some chicken manure on top of inside of a straw bale

How will I know if its too strong ........too much nitrogen? Maybe I should mix it with regular bagged soil?
any advice would be helpful.

I have a raised bed that i put chicken manure and soil in at the end of the summer/ fall. I was under the impression that
chicken manure is best if its at least 6 months old so it does not burn the plants...........with this combined with soil too.

I will be adding peat moss as well.............

although our last frost date is more like April 15th.............I think I should be able to plant lettuce and chard and bokchoy etc...

have you all started any seeds out yet?
I do have several milk jugs started.........but they are covered.

I have one window pane out there that could be a top cover yet do not have any sides set up.......not sure if this would be warm enough.......

lets talk

straw bale and chicken manure?
what to plant now and how much to cover it

I'm looking for baby silkies or silkie hatching eggs! OR anyone willing to ship silkie hatching eggs. I feel like they'd get here faster than if I bought them somewhere else.

Look up hackerhollowfarm. I'm not sure of her name on here if you look back a few threads you might see he mention she has them

Looks like we will be getting an electric fence soon. Hearing all the animal attacks scares me. We have 2 have a heart traps set up since we seen raccoon prints in the snow. One trap was closed and mishapped like something pushed the cage to get out. Long cold winter the critters are looking for dinner

I will be looking for some Basque and perhaps some Cochin. But, I still need to build a run. Looking for a good place to buy hardware cloth.

At this point, have a couple of bantams, a barred rock (seems to be a cockrel), 3 SLW.
i got my hardware cloth on craiglist ave picked up in Lancaster and the other batch of cloth i got was a addiction in Lancaster

I'm trying to picture what a landscape tie is vs a regular 4x4. Do you have a pic? Also, do you just sprinkle the crushed oyster shells around the perimeter?

Annjee:

They are like 4x4 with rounded edges...they are alot cheaper than PT 4x4....I attach the bottoms with SS screws and large washers....my ground has alot of rock / shale and clay in it and is hard to dig through....if I thought I needed the oyster shells, I dig a small trench 2" deep maybe 4-6" wide and fill with oyster....then cover with dirt and sprinkle with the hose to seal the shells in place....if you have extra rock throw them on top too.....hope this helps.....
