I actually continue turning all eggs not in lockdown until I see the first external pip when I do staggered hatches.

i have never done a staggered hatch...would definitely keep things interesting!! hahaha...i like to have things a bit more controlled, i guess that would be the word...or..simplified, especially for me, I do keep good records, but the less I complicate things the better...my mind can only handle so much...hahahaha

hey, my neighbor..the one with the goats and other such cuties..their goats are going to be giving birth soon and she invited me to attend!!

..i am soo excited!!
We are working out a schedule where I get the know the goats, they get to know me...I will be milking them/helping when she goes away, in return for the milk I get...she is also going to be showing me how to make cheese!
We are really enjoying this trade/barter relationship...I am also getting together with my Bee mentor, he is great...can not wait to get that started! It will be so cool to have our own honey..what an awesome product to trade with!

Hey folks: my last hatch has been a bit unusual...first chick at day22......three more over days 23 and 24....and on day 25 another.....when I thought I was done at the end of day 25 heard some chirps...no pipping....then about an hour later one pip...I decided to break her out ...she is still in the incubator...so far it will be x2 Olive eggers, x2 F2 Olive Eggers, one that may be a CCL/GLW, or a CCL/RB and if the last girl makes it a CCL...does any body else have these long hatch times?

haven't had that experience...glad to hear your hatch is going well though, even if they are a bit late...

...we are about 2 hours north-west from ya...

A homemade "coolerbator" is ideal for a hatcher. The big drawback for them is that it's hard to fit an automatic turner inside, but not a problem for hatching. One HUGE advantage is that when you open the top, all the humid air does not dump onto the floor like both styrobators and cabinet incubators. This work especially well if you have a sliding glass top set down into the cooler, so you can lift the lid anytime without losing the warm moist air, and slid the top just a little to reach if as needed.

the four in the back are the OEs, the butt facing is the CCL and the two on either side are CCL mixes from my brown egg layers....little guy on the right is acting a bit lethargic, gave him a dose of 'Save a chick' (he was the last to hatch)....

I want baby chickies but I don't know what the heck to do with all the eggs my 6 are giving us. Had 50 in the refrigerator until I took a dozen to our backdoor neighbor. It is just the 2 of us and we don't eat THAT many eggs.

Dheztle----97 chicks OMG! thats alot of chicks and you already have a bunch! lots of activity in your chicken coop for sure!

My new 4 are doing well and growing growing growing..............they are about in week 3! working to socialize them so they are more comfortable being touched etc........

Does anyone know when chicks can have some grass or dirt experience? I know its good to gradually provide them with this so they build some immunity to natures germs etc..........just not sure when.

also I think chick grit is not until week 8 so I wonder if they eat some grass if this will give them any digestive issues.

I have offerred a hard boiled egg ........well crumbled.............I want to offer some additional treats by hand so they see my hand as something of interest instead to be afraid of.............what can I offer 3 week old chicks?

I want to try shipping eggs since I've never done it before and I've had several inquiries about my turkey eggs. Would anyone be willing to be a test subject for me? Anyone with their incubator fired up be interested in my 4 slate blue turkey eggs from today?

I have 18 already set in my incubator that are 10 days from hatching. I set 19 and only had one that was no good during candling. I've seen plenty of breeding between my male and all his girls so I feel pretty confident that all should be fertile.
