Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

Welcome! Sorry about your Orp. Predators are SUCH a bummer.

I've lost 2 toulbants to a hawk this week. I have to keep them fenced i need my LGD on the outside of the fence to watch goat kids... Maybe it's time to get another LGD... Not sure I want to train a puppy.

B:

For my two cents...let the big girl train the pup...in my neck of the woods, not too many hawks this year.....for me its all about the foxes....

also, pups have a good effect on older pooches..if the pooch is not 'elderly'...my two cents....

Ok, went to Rural king and two year old daughter found this:

What kind of bunny? Can it be alone? Oh my goodness, it is cute!

Oh MY goodness!! That is the sweetest thing I think I've ever seen! Maybe a lion head bunny... My experience is limited.

@Stake, you're right, Bella is probably at the perfect age to train a pup. I just don't want to overwhelmed with the other training, like no jumping up, no chewing and most importantly, no playing with goats or birds. That last part demands a consistency that I just can't offer these days -without losing my mind.

@Lisa -Welcome Back! I'm sure your birds are up by now, I'm curious as to how they did last night.

@Silkie, I thought I posted pictures a day or 2 ago...I guess I didn't, and never need an excuse to post baby goat pics.

I had these 2 in with

a blue eyed tri color boy, if they settled, they will have kids late September. We do not plan on retaining any of those kids as they will be too closely related to the rest of our herd.

I have been away for a week and there are a zillion posts on this group!  literally a zillion!

Tonite I just put my younger birds on the lower roost bar under the older birds while they were semi asleep.................I read that this helps with the integration...............time will tell!

my younger birds are pretty big now..........and the two groups have been around each other often enough yet still not living happily in the same coop or enclosed space..............

I left the door to the run open in case fighting ensues in the morning ...............so this way there is more room to escape the battle..............

I read that the older birds often wake up and think this is a normal scenario and just go with it...............its hard to believe this will actually work but seems worth a try...........and a prayer!

i am only able to do this because they are bigger now,  have shown they know how to escape............and many other tactics have been tried...............anyone else ever done this.........

This is how I introduce my younger birds and it's worked so far for me. Heck, the last group that I added hadn't even been introduced at all to the rest of the flock. They went straight from the brooder in the garage to the big coop with the big girls. There's always a little squabbling as the pecking order gets rearranged of course but no serious injuries.......yet.

Let me know what you get from these 2. Really want a tri color doe to go with my tri color buck.

Hey everyone,

Anyone know if the Delmont TSC swap is still on for tomorrow? Was curious if they would start cancelling the swaps here with the H5N2 outbreaks looming overhead.
Thanks!

I really hate the 4th of July. The neighbors have been shooting off fireworks all day long. My animals are so stressed out right now. I went to put the birds away and my dogs were on the back deck, and the fireworks were going over my deck where my dogs were. My dog was so upset she almost went through the glass doors by jumping on them. I just hope they don't go into my koi pond. We have a blow up pool for our pond. If it gets a hole in it I will be so upset. Koi are very expensive and we have imported Japanese koi. I can't wait for this weekend to be over!!! My hubby and son need to be up at 3am for work tomorrow. With all this booming and screeching of fireworks going off I hope they can sleep. The ground is shaking from all the loud booms going off. I need to move away from all this crap!!!
