There is good reason for that. You know the little pipe that juts up through your roof? That is to ventilate the plumbing, so nothing siphons or gets held from a vacaum. Well, that pipe is usually metal and could conduct lightning into your house. This is also why we used to unplug tv's & computers during storms. A lightning strike could cause a power surge & fry them. My aunt had lightning hit theur tv antenna when I was a kid & it fried all 3 of their tv's. Surge protecters help prevent this these days, plus the fact that most people have cable. Satellite dishes can conduct the same way if hit too though.
