Hello from Mifflin County, Pa! I recently had 4 chicken give. To me and I purchased 5 pulled black australorps! None have started laying yet!, but I'm excited for when they do!

I too have heard not to shower during a storm.

There is good reason for that. You know the little pipe that juts up through your roof? That is to ventilate the plumbing, so nothing siphons or gets held from a vacaum. Well, that pipe is usually metal and could conduct lightning into your house. It's unlikely, but if it happens, it would be better for all living things to be as far as possible from the water lines.

A similar logic for not being on the phone, lightning could come through the phone or electric lines. Since many phones now are cordless, that seems like less of an issue than it once was.

This is also why we used to unplug tv's & computers during storms. A lightning strike could cause a power surge & fry them. My aunt had lightning hit theur tv antenna when I was a kid & it fried all 3 of their tv's. Surge protecters help prevent this these days, plus the fact that most people have cable. Satellite dishes can conduct the same way if hit too though.

I was just always told that lightning is attracted to water. I figured we were ok because my bathroom has no windows! Learn something new everyday.
